(GLO) - To help people in Ha Tay and Dak To Ve communes travel more easily during the rainy season, Chu Pah district ( Gia Lai province) has invested in repairing and renovating pedestrian suspension bridges in the area.

The suspension bridge in Hde village (Dak To Ve commune), spanning the Dak Po Tong stream, was built by Song Da-Tay Nguyen Hydropower Joint Stock Company and handed over to the Dak To Ve Commune People's Committee for management in 2015. The bridge is 60 meters long, 1.3 meters wide, with a wooden deck and steel towers. Thanks to this bridge, the villagers of Hde can easily access their production areas, especially during the rainy season.

To ensure safety during this year's rainy season, the specialized agencies of Chư Păh district, in coordination with the two communes of Đak Tơ Ve and Hà Tây, recently inspected the condition of the Hde village's pedestrian suspension bridge. The inspection revealed several potentially hazardous components, including: some wooden longitudinal beams of the bridge rotting; some sections of the wooden deck planks decaying; some sections of the bridge railing broken (temporarily repaired by the Đak Tơ Ve commune People's Committee); the stone abutments on both sides of the bridge sinking; the earthen approach roads at both ends of the bridge becoming slippery during the rainy season; and the tower pillars and main cables showing signs of rust.

Mr. Dênh (from Hde village) said: “Every day, people from Hde village and other villages in the commune regularly travel across this suspension bridge to get to their production areas. Currently, some sections of the bridge surface have deteriorated, causing people to worry about safety during their travels.”

According to Mr. Cao Phi Van, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak To Ve commune: Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of the commune has repeatedly mobilized officials and people from Hde village to repair and replace the bridge deck planks and erect barriers on both sides of the bridge to ensure the safety of people and motorbikes. During periods of heavy rain and strong winds, the commune always deploys forces to stand guard on both sides of the bridge to prevent people from crossing, in order to ensure the safety of lives and property.

“Before the 2023 rainy season, from the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, the People's Committee of the commune allocated 900 million VND and requested the People's Committee of the district to assign specialized agencies to survey and upgrade, renovate, and repair the suspension bridge in Hde village. Construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year,” Mr. Van informed.

Ha Tay commune has 5 pedestrian suspension bridges, of which 2 have been upgraded and renovated with government investment. Mr. We (Kon Mah village) shared: In 2022, the Dak Po Tong suspension bridge was built solidly with government investment, making travel much more convenient for people in the village and other villages. Everyone is very happy that this suspension bridge has connected to the increasingly complete rural road system of the commune, helping people focus on economic development and building a prosperous life.

Mr. Truong Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tay commune, said: Regarding the three pedestrian suspension bridges built by the people themselves, the People's Committee of the commune regularly inspects, reminds, and guides the people to fix any damage. This year, the People's Committee of the commune has also developed a plan to repair and renovate both ends of the bridges to prevent slipping and ensure the safety of people traveling during the rainy season.

Speaking with reporters, Mr. Cao Viet Linh, Head of the Economic and Infrastructure Department of Chu Pah District, said: On May 11, 2023, the District People's Committee issued Document No. 1925/UBND-KT on strengthening the management and maintenance of pedestrian suspension bridges in the area. The unit has inspected the current condition of the suspension bridges in Ha Tay and Dak To Ve communes and requested the two localities to regularly inspect and repair minor damages.

In addition, the communes are mobilizing people to clear vines to ensure safety. If the suspension bridge is deemed unsafe, barriers will be erected or it will be dismantled to prevent people from crossing. Currently, relevant units are preparing to repair and upgrade the suspension bridge in Hde village to facilitate convenient travel for the people.
