Famous for its clean vegetable brand in Bac Giang province, Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Cooperative is a bright spot in developing smart agriculture, applying VietGAP standards, closed biosafety and modern technology in production. In addition, the Cooperative also combines production with experiential tourism.
Pioneer in high technology application
Established in September 2016, Yen Dung Cooperative had an initial production area of only 13 hectares. Deputy Director of the Cooperative Tran Thi Kim Trang shared: After its establishment, the biggest difficulty of the Cooperative was the consolidation of land plots to focus on large-scale commodity production due to the lack of support and consensus from the people. At the same time, the Cooperative also did not have much experience in high-tech production. When entering the market, the Cooperative's products were not known by many people and did not have a stable output.
Realizing that the application of high technology brings economic efficiency and high quality, the cooperative invests and determines the goal of developing agriculture in the direction of high technology as the main focus. The cooperative invests in modern equipment in greenhouses such as sun-blocking net systems, ventilation fans, wind-blocking curtains, automatic irrigation and fertilization systems from Israel to help reduce labor costs, save fertilizers, irrigation water and external impacts on the products. In addition, to produce safe, clean quality products that do not affect the environment, the cooperative applies the 5 "no" production rule: No pesticides, no preservatives, no herbicides, no genetic modification and no growth stimulants.
To change the traditional farming mindset to production applying VietGap standards, technical staff are interested in providing detailed instructions and organizing many training sessions for cooperative members. With products produced according to VietGap standards, information on fertilization and spraying are updated in the field diary for monitoring and retrieval when necessary. Each time fertilizing and spraying, the time must be fully recorded, with boards and charts placed in the field for identification. For plots and plots using plant protection chemicals, warning signs must be attached to monitor and ensure the isolation period when harvesting products.
After 8 years of development, the cooperative has expanded its scale with a total cultivated area of over 65 hectares, of which 17 hectares are cared for according to the Israeli high-tech greenhouse model and automatic fertilization; built over 35,000 m2 of high-tech greenhouses, applying flexible technology in production. Currently, the cooperative is producing about 60 vegetable and fruit products, of which the main ones are some varieties grown in greenhouses and greenhouses such as melons, cucumbers, tomatoes, cantaloupes, Korean melons, Baby cucumbers, Kim Hoang Hau melons, etc., bringing high economic efficiency and quality.
Effectively exploiting agricultural models associated with tourism
From the above orientation, the Cooperative has gradually built the brand "Yen Dung Clean Vegetables" in the market and is one of the main suppliers of vegetables and fruits for large supermarkets such as Winmart, Coop mart, GO! and clean food stores. In 2023, the Cooperative increased its revenue to about 5 - 7 billion VND/month; creating jobs for 85 workers with an average income of 7.5 million VND/person/month.
In parallel with growing safe vegetables, since the beginning of October 2022, Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Cooperative has promoted the combination of experiential education models, attracting many groups of visitors, especially preschool and primary school students in the province and schools outside the province. With a total investment of nearly 4 billion VND, the Cooperative has initially built experiential areas based on the Cooperative's existing foundations such as clean vegetable production processes, 4.0 agriculture development and the construction of new zoos, children's playgrounds, collective lunch breaks, etc.
With an entrance fee of 50,000 VND, visitors can enjoy the fresh air, visit modern vegetable gardens in the greenhouse system, automatic irrigation system of the cooperative ; participate in the practical experience of basic agricultural production processes from soil preparation, sowing seeds to care, harvesting and consumption of products.
It is expected that when the model is operating effectively, the cooperative will continue to invest in additional items such as: Rest areas, more diverse dining areas, targeting families who want to relax and experience on weekends.
It can be seen that the model of smart agricultural development associated with experiential tourism such as Yen Dung clean vegetable cooperative is a new direction, contributing to the stronger development of cooperatives, becoming a sustainable direction for cooperatives if exploited properly./.
