Towards Hung King's death anniversary on March 10

BDK - “No matter where you go/ Remember the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day on the 10th of March” is a folk song that has been engraved in the hearts of many generations to remind them of the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day. To commemorate the ancestors’ merits in the struggle to build and defend the country, on December 19, 2001, the Government decided to take the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month every year as the National Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day.

Sacred ancestral roots

The Hung Kings' Commemoration Festival in 2025 in the province will be held simultaneously on the morning of April 7, 2025 (March 10, At Ty year) at the communal houses. This year's Hung Kings' Commemoration Festival is even more meaningful as the whole country is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the 139th anniversary of International Labor Day; the 71st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory; and the 135th anniversary of the birth of beloved President Ho Chi Minh .

During his lifetime, during a visit to Hung Temple in Phu Tho , President Ho Chi Minh told the officers and soldiers of the Vanguard Army Corps (Division 308, Corps 1) who were on their way to take over the capital: “The Hung Kings had the merit of building the country. You and I must work together to protect the country.” That precious advice of Uncle Ho has become a meaningful propaganda slogan nationwide, especially on the occasion of the Hung Kings' National Death Anniversary.

Worshiping the Hung Kings not only prays for the National Ancestors to bless the nation with peace, prosperity, and favorable weather, but also connects the solidarity and love of the Vietnamese ethnic community. According to historical documents, the Hung King era was the brilliant beginning of the history of the Vietnamese nation. Archaeological sites have confirmed that the Hung King period and the Van Lang country had a Vietnamese civilization. The Hung Kings built the Van Lang - Au Lac state, the first state of Vietnam - which formed the seed and root of the nation, laid the foundation for the nation's history with a wet rice civilization, brought a prosperous life, created the premise for the development of the country and a brilliant culture: Dong Son culture - Red River civilization, a rich and unique traditional art culture.

Many meaningful activities

Towards the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary, the Provincial People's Committee has announced the hanging of the national flag towards the Hung Kings' Death Anniversary; many propaganda, decoration, cultural and sports activities are organized in many places in the province, especially the worship rituals at communal houses. Through propaganda and commemorative activities, it is aimed at strongly arousing the spirit of patriotism, the will of self-reliance, the tradition of great national unity; encouraging all classes of people to join hands to build the homeland and the country to be more and more prosperous and happy.

Vice Chairman of Ben Tre City People's Committee Nguyen Van Thuong - Head of the Organizing Committee of Hung Kings' Commemoration Day 2025, Ben Tre City said: "Following the customs of the Vietnamese people, together with the whole country, Ben Tre City organizes the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day on March 10, 2025. This is one of the activities for us to turn to our roots, respect and promote the cultural values ​​of the nation to build a better new society, worthy of the great contributions of our ancestors".

Deputy Head of the City's Department of Culture - Science and Information Nguyen Van Cao informed that the People's Committee of Ben Tre City has issued a plan to organize the Hung Kings' Commemoration Ceremony in the year of At Ty 2025. This year, An Hoi communal house (An Hoi ward) was chosen as a city-level point.

For communes and wards with communal houses, the festival will be held at the local communal house (localities with many communal houses will choose one communal house to hold the festival at the communal level, the remaining communal houses can hold the Worship Ceremony at the communal house). For communes and wards without communal houses, they will attend the Hung Kings' Commemoration Festival at the city level. The ceremony will include rituals to worship the ancestors, the leaders of Ben Tre City will have a speech reviewing the traditions of the Hung Kings' time and the process of fighting for national liberation, offering incense and gifts; all levels of cadres and people will respectfully offer incense to commemorate the merits of the Hung Kings. The communal house festival committee will have rituals to worship according to custom and to honor heroic martyrs. In addition, there will be a festival to organize fun folk games for local people.

The Hung Kings' death anniversary has become a cultural identity and a moral of "remembering the source of water when drinking" of the Vietnamese people, expressing the gratitude of generations of descendants to the merits of their ancestors in the cause of building and defending the country. The Hung Kings' death anniversary festival in the year of At Ty 2025 continues to be held at communal houses across the province. Each district and city chooses 1 communal house as a focal point.
