A few days ago, Huy Hoang brought home a historic gold medal in the 1,500m event. This was the first time in his career that he won an Asian-level swimming competition.
But not stopping there, the swimmer from Quang Binh continued to maintain his impressive form to bring home another gold medal for the Vietnamese team. This time, he won another event, the 800m, on the evening of October 1.
The Vietnamese swimmer continued to face Ilya Sibirtsev, the Uzbek athlete who was chasing closely at the distance of 1,500m. The two created another dramatic and tense competition.
In the end, Huy Hoang was still the winner with a time of 7 minutes 57.58 seconds. Sibirtsev came in second with a time of 8 minutes 0.37 seconds. Chinese swimmer Xu Haibo came in third after 8 minutes 2.34 seconds.
Huy Hoang’s 800m performance this time is much better than what he showed at the 2024 Paris Olympics (8 minutes 8.39 seconds). However, this is not the best performance of his career, when he once reached 7 minutes 49.67 seconds.
The second gold medal continued to mark a historic successful tournament for Huy Hoang. He showed good preparation and determined fighting spirit.
However, it must be admitted that this year’s Asian Swimming Championships did not have any high-class athletes from China, Japan and Korea. That was also part of the reason for Huy Hoang’s victory.
