The district's "main street"

After the official merger of Nong Son district into Que Son district on January 1, 2025, Que Son district now has three towns: Dong Phu, Huong An, and Trung Phuoc.

With 3 towns, Que Son holds the record for the most towns in the province, as no other district in Quang Nam has more than one town. Across the entire South Central Coast region, only Phu Cat district (Binh Dinh province) has 3 towns.

With three towns, Que Son's urban development process will be facilitated by the formation of an east-west street axis, instead of the majority of the bustling activity being concentrated in a single town like in other districts.

After the merger, Dong Phu remains the district capital of Que Son. Although not a district capital, interestingly, both Huong An and Trung Phuoc possess unique advantages that allow them to create a vibrant urban lifestyle.

The town of Huong An, though only established less than 20 years ago (in 2008), actually had a market named Huong An before 1945, connected to villages such as Huong Yen, Huong Lu, and Huong Loc… More importantly, its location on the North-South highway (National Highway 1) and the winding Ly Ly and Ba Ren rivers made this area an ideal model for population settlement according to the ancient concept.

As for Trung Phuoc, although it lies deep in the midland and semi-mountainous region, this town still possesses its own unique charm. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides, Trung Phuoc market was established in the 18th century and helped Trung Phuoc become a bustling trading hub with boats and ships.

Although Trung Phuoc town is only two years old (established in 2023), for hundreds of years, among street vendors and those who come and go or stay, Trung Phuoc has been considered a vibrant trading and residential center.

In fact, when Trung Phuoc (then Que Trung commune) was recognized as a type V urban area in 2017, it achieved a fairly high score of nearly 82 points (only 75 points were needed to qualify for recognition).

Finding ways to improve urban quality.

Despite its numerical superiority, the local authorities have long recognized the problem of urban development, especially the weak infrastructure of Que Son compared to other localities in the eastern region of the province.

For example, the basic needs for clean water in Que Son town are still not being met. Many residential areas such as Thuan An, Tam Hoa, My Dong, Cang Tay, Lang Thuong 1, Lang Thuong 2 (Dong Phu town), Huong Loc, Huong Yen, Huong An Dong, Dong Tram, Yen Lu (Huong An town)... still frequently face shortages of clean water for daily use.

According to the leaders of the Que Son District People's Committee, the locality is planning to expand the boundaries of Huong An town to become a worthy economic, cultural, and social center; a transportation hub and economic exchange point for the eastern communes of the district.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Que Son district, said: "The district will maintain the criteria of type V and is planning to expand Huong An urban area to the west (towards Que My commune)."

During the period 2025-2030, the district will also focus on developing Dong Phu town to reach approximately 80% of the standards of a type IV urban area, while strengthening efforts to attract investment projects to improve the economic scale and urban infrastructure of the towns.

As for Trung Phuoc town, Que Son district has requested the province to adjust the general urban planning of Trung Phuoc as well as the overall urban planning of Trung Phuoc to conform with the orientation of adjusting the urban characteristics, utilizing existing infrastructure, and creating new development momentum for this town after the merger.

Overall, due to the modest number of investment projects in the towns of Que Son, the rate of mechanical population increase here is also very low. Meanwhile, being located in the Eastern region, Que Son must make great efforts to keep up with the accelerated development of Quang Nam province according to the provincial plan. And in this new phase, the three towns of the district must be the "nuclei" to promote the socio-economic development of the locality.
