The iPhone 14 Pro Max was released in 2022 and production ceased after the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max in September 2023. To date, the device has become scarce, and consumers are finding it difficult to find the storage capacity and color they desire.
On Apple's official online store (Apple Store) in Vietnam, this device, along with its "twin" the iPhone 14 Pro, has been unavailable since September last year, replaced by the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. At some authorized dealers (AARs), this product is also listed as "Discontinued" or available in limited quantities, with insufficient selection at local stores outside of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is no longer widely available in Vietnam as of the end of March 2024.
A representative from an AAR stated that because the iPhone 14 Pro Max has been discontinued for a long time, there is a shortage of supply. If retailers want to import more from major distribution channels, they will have to accept higher costs. Therefore, in the current market, those still selling new stock often have to raise prices to compensate for the shortage.
Ms. Phung Phuong, representative of Di Dong Viet, confirmed that due to limited supply, their system has almost stopped selling the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Meanwhile,FPT Shop forecasts that their inventory will only be sufficient until the end of April if market demand remains at its current level, and they will not import any more after clearing out their stock.
Since their launch, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max haven't been as stable as their predecessors, with prices fluctuating constantly according to market conditions. At launch, they immediately became scarce and prices increased, with supply chain shortages continuing until close to the Lunar New Year. After the holiday, supply became more abundant and prices gradually decreased.
After 10 months on the market (since October 2022), a standard iPhone 14 Pro Max has dropped in price by 8 million VND – the fastest depreciation rate ever recorded for a newly launched iPhone in Vietnam. There were even times when retailers accepted selling at the same price, or even at a loss (as shared by some small-scale retailers), on each unit sold to stimulate the market and quickly recoup capital amidst unusually weak purchasing power.
Exactly one year after its launch, the product hit rock bottom, falling below 26 million VND, but it rebounded slightly after the launch of the iPhone 15 series, reaching around 27 million VND in December 2023.
Mr. Nguyen The Kha, Commercial Director of FPT Shop system, commented that despite the price increase, this device still receives attention from users because the new generation does not create too many differences in design, while the features and configuration still meet needs, and it has a lower price.
However, with the reference price of 27 million VND in December 2023 and the current shortage, some market experts suggest that consumers should add about 3 million VND to buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max when the price of this product line starts to drop after the Lunar New Year and prepares to enter the annual sluggish period of the market that occurs in the second quarter.
Currently, the standard iPhone 15 Pro Max (256 GB) is priced below 30 million VND at some retailers. At a lower price point, around 25 million VND, users can choose the 128 GB iPhone 15 Pro. These are Apple's latest devices, so they offer better specifications, features, and longer support lifecycles than their 2022 predecessors.
