iPhone 16e has been discounted in Vietnam before it was released

The iPhone 16e was introduced by Apple in mid-February and is expected to be available to Vietnamese users from March 7. According to the listed price from Apple Store, the iPhone 16e starts at 16.9 million VND for the 128 GB version, and the highest-end version with 512 GB of internal memory costs 25.9 million VND.

A few days before the official launch, some authorized Apple dealers and distributors (AARs) in Vietnam have adjusted the price down to 300,000 to 500,000 VND below the listed price per product. This is rare for a new Apple product on the shelves.

At CellphoneS, all memory versions of the iPhone 16s are being discounted by 500,000 VND, the 128 GB version is reduced from 16.9 million VND to 16.4 million VND. Meanwhile, Mobile World is directly discounting 500,000 VND for pre-order customers, plus other incentives, buyers can save up to 1.4 million VND when buying a new iPhone 16e.

Major retail systems such as Mobile World , FPT Shop, Viettelstore... also apply discount programs of 300,000 - 500,000 VND. Applying additional discount policies such as loyal customers, payment by credit card, iPhone 16e buyers can get a discount of up to more than 1 million VND.

According to retailers, this is a rare occasion when a new Apple mobile device is discounted immediately upon hitting the shelves. Previously, Apple's new iPhone lines were often in short supply during the first sales period, causing prices to be pushed higher than the company's listed price. However, with the iPhone 16e, the appeal of the device is not too great, so some systems proactively balance profits to gain more market share and attract customers.

The iPhone 16e is positioned by Apple in the mid-range segment, replacing the previous iPhone SE line. In terms of appearance, the iPhone 16e is not too outstanding, the device looks like the iPhone 13 but has thicker bezels than the iPhone 16 Pro.

CellphoneS representative said that compared to iPhone SE, iPhone 16e is attracting certain attention from Vietnamese users. In the first half day of receiving deposits, the system received more than 200 pre-orders, exceeding initial expectations.

Some notable features on the device include the Apple-designed C1 cellular modem instead of Qualcomm's modem. The iPhone 16e is equipped with the A18 chip, supporting Apple Intelligence. The device uses FaceID facial recognition instead of fingerprint sensor. The toggle switch is replaced with an Action button.

The iPhone 16e still has some limitations such as not being equipped with MagSafe wireless charging technology, which has become standard since the iPhone 12. The old "rabbit ear" design instead of the Dynamic Island screen. The C1 modem only supports Wi-Fi 6 while the previously launched iPhone 16 series was equipped with Wi-Fi 7 technology. The iPhone 16e will not support the 5G mmWave connection standard, allowing for super-fast downloads. While mid-range Android smartphones are all equipped with this technology.

According to market analysts, the iPhone 16e will be suitable for people who are using older iPhones, from iPhone 11 and earlier, and want to upgrade to a new iPhone at a reasonable price. With the presence of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, which are very competitive, the sales of the iPhone 16e may be affected when users consider between features and price.

The iPhone 16e was expected to help Apple fill the mid-range segment, which is dominated by Android mobile companies. However, with a starting price of 16.9 million VND and not-so-outstanding features, the iPhone 16e can hardly compete with some Android rivals in the same segment from Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo.
