State television broadcast images of the new ballistic missile called Etemad (meaning "Faith" in Persian), with a maximum range of 1,700 km. According to the broadcast, Etemad is the latest ballistic missile developed by the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
Iran's missiles, including its latest designs, are all capable of targeting Israel, and Tehran last year launched salvos of missiles into neighboring territory twice during a period of escalating conflict in Gaza.
"The development of military capabilities and space technology aims to ensure that no country dares to attack Iranian territory," AFP quoted President Pezeshkian as saying at the ceremony on February 2.

The event was held to mark Iran's National Space Day and a few days before the 46th anniversary of the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran on February 10th.
Earlier, on February 1, Iran test-fired anti-ship cruise missiles with a range of 1,000 km, meaning they are capable of putting US naval vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman within striking range, according to Iranian state television.
"This is the Ghadr-380 L-type anti-ship missile, with a range of 1,000 km and anti-jamming/jamming capabilities," according to General Ali Reza Tangsiri, head of the naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The news report did not provide details about the warhead specifications (whether it was a nuclear warhead or not) or the time the test was conducted.
However, anti-ship missiles can be launched from an underground base, and have previously been test-fired from central Iran toward the Sea of Oman.
According to General Tangsiri, the missile requires only one operator and can be prepared for firing in less than 5 minutes.
