At the reception, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh thanked and appreciated IUCN's efforts and contributions over the years to conservation work in localities of Vietnam, specifically the important contributions to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection, bringing many achievements such as conservation areas, biosphere reserves, wetlands, etc.
In the trend of biodiversity being an important natural capital for developing a green economy , protecting the environment, preventing natural disasters and adapting to climate change as set out in the National Strategy on Biodiversity to 2030, the Minister suggested that IUCN continue to support Vietnam in accessing financial resources for larger-scale transformation projects and bringing livelihoods to people, and cooperating to support Vietnam in river basin management and ensuring water security.
Ms. Grethel Aguilar said that IUCN has been present in Vietnam for 30 years and has actively participated in Vietnam's efforts in the field of global nature conservation and biodiversity. IUCN wishes to continue to strengthen cooperation activities, especially in the field of biodiversity conservation, and carry out joint cooperation projects related to the environment, climate and water resources.
Ms. Aguilar said that IUCN is committed to supporting Vietnam in accessing financial and technical channels to implement projects on water resources, nature conservation, biodiversity and climate change response.
* Previously, also within the framework of the COP28 Conference, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh also had a discussion with Ms. Theresa Mundita Lim, Executive Director of the ASEAN Biodiversity Center. Ms. Theresa Mundita Lim highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in responding to climate change, conserving biodiversity and affirmed that the ASEAN Biodiversity Center is committed to cooperating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to implement cooperative activities.
