Cultural storytelling with technology

"The Archaeological Record of the Imperial Capital" is a story of culture combined with technology, opening up many prospects for the development of cultural industry in Vietnam.

The Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Comicola Company and Phygital Labs have just launched an experience area and introduced the project "The Archaeological Capital". This is a project that combines the cultural heritage value of the ancient capital of Hue and the Nomion identification technology solution with NFC chip, opening up a direction to exploit heritage values to develop an attractive cultural industry.

Connecting past and present

Royal antiquities that used to lie dormant in museums are now digitized, applying the solution of "Nomion digital identification, combining RFID technology with blockchain". The story of cultural heritage and Nguyen Dynasty treasures is vividly recreated, helping people and tourists not only understand the historical value but also feel the connection between the past and the present.

In fact, projects of this type have become popular in the world , especially in places with many monuments and museums such as China, Korea, Japan, Egypt, etc., helping to increase the attachment to the monuments. Technology in art also helps to combine modern collecting pleasures with traditional values. Derivative products from books, movies, cartoons, etc. have opened up new creative trends, encouraging the study of the country's culture and history.

Recently, Comicola Company, as a unit specializing in sponsoring cultural products of young authors, has called for community fundraising for "Art toy - movie Cam". This is the first art toy project based on movie characters in Vietnam. With the goal of building an ecosystem for film works, this is a reasonable way, suitable for real conditions, thereby contributing to bringing Vietnamese film products closer to world level.

International Museum Day (May 18) with the theme "The future of museums in rapidly changing communities" was recently held, showing the constant movement of social life and the need for innovation of museums, as cultural andeducational institutions in the digital age.

Many museums in Vietnam have gradually changed. In particular, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum is one of the pioneers in applying digital technology to exhibition activities and public services. With solutions such as multimedia automatic explanation software (iMuseum VFA), 3D tours, online exhibition space (VAES), etc., this museum has brought visitors more multidimensional and vivid experiences. Without the need for a guide, visitors can easily choose a language, access information through images, sounds, videos, etc. about the works. Even people who are not present at the museum can still "stroll" through the galleries, learning about Vietnamese fine arts through the periods.

Meanwhile, the National Museum of History combines artifacts and 3D projection technology, creating historical depth for each topic. The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology promotes the strength of outdoor exhibitions, combining vivid performances of customs and practices of ethnic communities.

In many localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Dien Bien, Da Nang, etc., museums have also proactively digitized their archives to expand access. These places have deployed QR code scanning to introduce artifacts, developed virtual tours with multilingual explanations, etc.

Opportunities and challenges

Technology does not destroy the original value of artifacts but contributes to telling stories in a more engaging way. Solutions applying virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), 3D models, interactive devices, digital maps, etc. are creating smart museums, gradually bringing the public closer to heritage.

According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, digital transformation is not only a way to keep up with trends but also an opportunity to spread heritage to a wider audience, especially the young. The liveliness of digital exhibition spaces has contributed to bringing heritage closer to modern life.

Mr. Nguyen Huy, CEO of Phygital Labs, said: "Phygital Labs aims to expand technology solutions to many relic sites and museums across the country to spread cultural values and raise awareness of national history. From there, create a unique chain of cultural products, helping to connect the younger generation with heritage in the direction of technology serving cultural values".

Some museums have begun offering apps for visitors to use, such as podcasts on Spotify or YouTube videos, that provide additional information about works and artifacts.

Both an opportunity and a challenge, the technological game in art brings commensurate values. If left out of this game, art will be somewhat "out of step" with the development trend of the world.

Live theater has become an impressive performing arts trend in Vietnam as well as in the world. With the combination of majestic natural space, modern technology and vivid performances, this type of art not only creates a unique artistic experience but also serves as a bridge to bring traditional culture closer to the audience.

Outstanding programs such as "Hoi An Memories", "The Quintessence of the North" or "Dance on the Clouds" all have large stage designs, using hundreds of actors, combined with meticulously invested lighting, sound and background music systems. The performances are not just about singing and dancing but also require synchronization between stage effects with LED screens, fireworks..., even natural elements such as water and fire...
