Scenes from the ceremony

The Vĩnh Tế Canal was dug manually by hand using rudimentary tools over a period of about 5 years (1819-1824). This is an important project with immense economic, political , and military value, especially in international relations. Currently, the canal runs along the Vietnam-Cambodia border, from Châu Đốc City to Giang Thành District (Kiên Giang Province), measuring 91 km in length, 25 m in width, and 3 m in depth. Approximately 46.5 km of the canal lies within An Giang Province. The initial section of the canal adjoins the Châu Đốc River, with one bank belonging to Vĩnh Nguơn Ward and the other to Châu Phú B Ward.

Handing over the decision to rank the site as a historical monument to the local authorities.

Delegates pose for a commemorative photo at the ceremony.

Decision 102/QD-UBND, dated January 22, 2025, of the Provincial People's Committee classified the Vinh Te Canal historical site (Vinh Nguon Ward) as a provincial-level historical relic. Prior to that, in 2024, the Vinh Te Canal was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the "longest manually dug canal in the border area of Vietnam".

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trung Thanh congratulated the Party Committee and people of Chau Doc City on having another historical site ranked by the Provincial People's Committee. This is an important event to affirm and honor the historical value of the Vinh Te Canal.

In the coming period, local authorities need to focus on directing specialized units to preserve and promote the value of historical relics; establish a Relic Management Board to participate in protecting the relics, strictly adhering to legal regulations; strengthen propaganda and education to raise awareness among local communities to work together to protect the relics, making them increasingly beautiful and well-maintained; and promote their value more effectively and positively to be worthy of inheriting the heritage left by our ancestors.
