Ceremony scene
Vinh Te Canal was dug manually by human power with rudimentary tools, in about 5 years (1819 - 1824). This is an important project, of great value in terms of economy, politics , military, especially in international relations. Currently, the canal runs along the Vietnam - Cambodia border, from Chau Doc city to Giang Thanh district (Kien Giang province), 91km long, 25m wide, 3m deep. The canal is located in An Giang province about 46.5km. The first part of the canal is adjacent to Chau Doc river, one bank belongs to Vinh Nguon ward, the other bank belongs to Chau Phu B ward.

Decision 102/QD-UBND dated January 22, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee ranked the Vinh Te Canal historical site (Vinh Nguon Ward) as a provincial-level relic. Previously, in 2024, Vinh Te Canal was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as "the longest manual canal in the border area of Vietnam".
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trung Thanh congratulated the Party Committee and People of Chau Doc City on having another historical relic ranked by the Provincial People's Committee. This is an important event to affirm and honor the historical value of Vinh Te Canal.
In the coming time, local authorities need to pay attention to directing specialized units to preserve and promote the value of relics; establish a Relic Management Board to participate in protecting relics, strictly complying with legal regulations; strengthen propaganda andeducation to raise awareness of local communities to join hands to protect increasingly spacious and clean relics; promote values more effectively and positively to be worthy of inheriting the heritage values left by our predecessors.
