New flight routes open up new destinations.
Recently, the flight route from Phu Quoc (An Giang province) to Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) officially launched with four flights per week, contributing to strengthening tourism connections between these two famous island destinations in Vietnam. According to information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, the unit successfully organized the welcoming ceremony for the first flight of the Phu Quoc - Nha Trang route.
On March 16th, at a scientific seminar on tourism development organized by the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, experts identified the opportunities and challenges facing the province. Among them, Long Thanh airport emerged as a key factor in spreading and stimulating tourism demand.
In recent years, Vietnamese airlines have continuously expanded their flight networks, especially to promising markets. For example, new routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Brisbane (Australia), Hyderabad (India), and Hanoi - Chengdu (China) have been launched, opening up new travel corridors between Vietnam and major economic and cultural centers of the world.
Opening direct flights not only shortens travel time but also gives a strong boost to destinations. In Central Vietnam, localities such as Da Nang, Hue, Nha Trang, and Da Lat are seeing increased international connections from airlines to attract tourists from Northeast Asia, India, and Europe.
In reality, whenever a new international or domestic flight route is opened, the number of visitors to the locality usually increases significantly. For example, the Indian market, which was previously underexploited, has become a rapidly growing source of visitors as airlines have opened many direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to major cities in that country.
From a strategic perspective, these air routes not only serve tourism but also facilitate trade, investment, and cultural exchange. Direct connections to global economic centers make Vietnam a more convenient destination on the international tourism map.
Efficient air traffic management
To maximize the effectiveness of air routes, synchronized coordination between the aviation industry, the tourism industry, and local authorities is necessary. One of the most important factors is a relaxed visa policy. In recent years, Vietnam has continuously reformed entry procedures, expanded the list of visa-exempt countries, and extended the length of stay for many markets.
These changes have contributed to strong growth in Vietnam's tourism industry. In 2025, Vietnam welcomed over 21 million international visitors. By early 2026, the number of domestic and foreign tourists is also expected to increase significantly compared to the same period.
Besides visas, pricing policies are also a decisive factor in attracting tourists. To retain domestic tourists and attract international visitors, airlines need to implement various promotional programs, offer low-fare tickets, or provide combo packages combining airfare, hotels, and tours. This is a model that many successful tourism countries have adopted to stimulate the market.
Furthermore, expanding the system of border gates and airports that accept electronic visas (e-visas) also contributes to improving accessibility for international tourists. Vietnam has increased the number of border gates allowing entry with e-visas to 83, according to Resolution 389/NQ-CP. The addition of 41 new border gates (including land, sea, and air) optimizes procedures, maximizing convenience for international tourists and promoting tourism.
To effectively utilize new flight routes, localities need to be more proactive in promoting destinations and developing tourism products. If there are only flight routes but a lack of attractive experiences, tourists will be less likely to return or extend their stay. Some localities have begun implementing a tripartite cooperation model between airlines, tourism businesses, and local authorities.
When air routes are effectively connected with tourism products and favorable policies, aviation not only transports passengers but also opens up new avenues for Vietnam's tourism industry on the world map.
