Vietnam U19 striker Cong Hau scored a hat-trick, securing 3 points in their opening match victory against East Timor U19 at the Southeast Asian tournament on the afternoon of June 1st.
Immediately after the opening whistle, Vietnam U19 scored the opening goal in the 2nd minute. With a skillful move on the right wing, Duc Vu delivered a perfect pass for Cong Hau to run down and finish accurately into the empty net, giving Vietnam U19 a 1-0 lead.
However, the early goal did not mean an easy game. Just two minutes later, the Vietnam U19 defense left gaps, creating an opportunity for the Timor Leste U19 striker to take a dangerous shot. Fortunately for the red-shirted team, the ball went just across the goal.
Vietnam U19 had a few more scoring opportunities but missed them. In the 13th minute, Cong Hau broke through quickly and crossed the ball for Duc Vu to shoot towards the far corner, but the opposing defender managed to clear the ball. Then, in the 35th minute, Cong Hau again disappointed the audience when his shot after beating the offside trap only grazed the side netting.
The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for Vietnam U19.

In the second half, U19 Timor Leste proactively dropped deep and organized a tight defense, causing considerable difficulties for U19 Vietnam's attacks. Meanwhile, their set-piece situations were not as effective as desired. In the 52nd minute, Duc Vu had a chance to double the lead, but his header from a favorable position lacked accuracy.
In the 83rd minute, from a precise cross by Quoc Khanh on the right wing, Cong Hau executed a spectacular overhead volley, giving the U19 Timor Leste goalkeeper no chance to save it, increasing the score to 2-0.
As the match entered the first minute of added time, the striker, a product of the Thể Công Viettel youth academy, continued to impress with a confident dribble before unleashing a powerful diagonal shot, completing his hat-trick and sealing a 3-0 victory for Vietnam U19.
In the second match, coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's team will face U19 Myanmar.
