Vietnam U19 started the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship with an easy 3-0 victory over Timor Leste U19. This result did not surprise many people, as coach Yutaka Ikeuchi 's team was considered the stronger side.
Notably, all three goals for the red-shirted team were scored by Hoang Cong Hau (2', 83', 90'+1). The opening goal in the 2nd minute was a situation where Cong Hau broke through before making a delicate touch to beat the U19 Timor Leste goalkeeper.
In the 83rd minute, receiving a cross from the right wing, Cong Hau executed a low volley to score his second goal against U19 Timor Leste. Before the match ended, the player from The Cong Viettel completed his hat-trick with a breakaway and a precise shot into the far corner.

Hoang Cong Hau was born in 2007 in Hai Phong. He is one of the outstanding talents who graduated from the youth training academy of the former Hai Duong Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, and later joined The Cong Viettel.
In the 2023 National U17 Championship, Cong Hau was a key player in the U17 The Cong Viettel team. In the final match against Ha Tinh , he scored crucial goals that helped his team win 4-2 and claim the championship trophy.
Despite not possessing the ideal physique for a center forward, Hoang Cong Hau is highly regarded by experts for his modern, intelligent playing style, technical skills, unexpected acceleration in tight spaces, and especially his goal-scoring ability.
Given the opportunity to start for the Vietnam U19 team in the opening match of the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship, Hoang Cong Hau had an outstanding performance. His impressive display and three goals have led to high expectations for the young star from The Cong Viettel.
