Career networking in Australia

To meet the needs of Vietnamese students in Australia seeking career opportunities in various fields and future jobs, the Vietnamese Student Association in Queensland (AVSQ) organized the career development event (idX).

The highlight of the idX event is its expanded scope, opening up opportunities for international students from across Queensland, not just Vietnamese students. According to the idX organizers, the event is not just about competitions, but also a practical experience journey, helping students enhance their professional skills, broaden their professional perspectives, and connect directly with leading businesses.

idX spans two months and includes a hands-on team competition, exhibitions, and a career fair. The program is designed for sophomores, juniors, and recent graduates seeking internships or jobs in three fields: business, cutting-edge technology, and the creative industries.

The competition begins with the idX Competition, launched in May 2025. The idX Competition involves 20 participants divided into 5 teams based on their respective industries, working together to solve practical problems designed by AVSQ specifically for each field. Participants have two months to prepare their products before presenting them to a judging panel and potential employers. In addition to developing their projects independently, the teams receive professional support through direct mentoring from experts in the three aforementioned professional fields and two skills-building workshops. This provides an opportunity for team members to meet and get acquainted through warm-up activities, thematic panel discussions, and dialogues with guest speakers who have years of experience in the industry. This encourages participants to think critically, create innovative solutions, develop prototypes, and present them to the judging panel.

The event concluded with an exhibition and career fair at the University of Queensland at the end of July. During the exhibition, the best team presented their product to attendees and a judging panel of experienced professionals from various fields. The winning team received a cash prize and the opportunity for a direct interview with the technology company Go1.

Alongside the competition, the career fair was a vibrant event featuring participation from businesses and organizations including Go1, CPA Australia, Vision Cosmos, AUG, Job Ready Master, and Aussizz Group Queensland. Students were free to visit the booths, interact directly with recruiters, learn about internship and employment opportunities, and receive advice on studying and settling in Australia.

Sharing her thoughts on the event, Alyssa Heng, a design student from Malaysia, commented that idX was designed to closely reflect current recruitment realities. Alyssa Heng said: “I didn’t think the event would be so diverse. The booths of the companies weren’t just for traditional industries, but also included study abroad and immigration consulting – exactly what I’m researching. I was also very impressed with the presentations from the competing teams, as it helped me understand how an idea is developed systematically. I gained a lot of useful information and made some new connections.”

The successful organization of the idX career fair once again demonstrates AVSQ's creativity and community engagement efforts in Australia. Since its establishment in 2021, AVSQ has experienced remarkable growth and achieved impressive results in career guidance, life support, and connecting the Vietnamese student community in Brisbane and Queensland. AVSQ's events consistently attract participation from many international students and Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in Queensland, helping to promote the image of Vietnam and the association's activities across various media platforms.
