The book "A Picture of the History of Southern Vietnam" by author Nguyen Quang Dieu, published by Omega Plus, offers readers a different perspective on the people and land of Southern Vietnam in the past through records of historical events.
The work contains nearly 150 vivid and valuable paintings/photographs/maps, including 24 pages of color prints and some images being presented for the first time.
This portrayal depicts the historical landscape of Southern Vietnam, interpreting historical events that took place in the past, from the time of Gia Long, Minh Mạng, and Lê Văn Duyệt to the French invasion and establishment of colonial rule.
The historical periods gradually emerge, from the time Nguyen Anh took refuge in Gia Dinh to avoid attacks from the Tay Son army, through many historical and cultural upheavals, and ending at the Great Depression of 1929-1933.

Saigon was swept up in the global economic crisis, people's lives were thrown into turmoil, and crowds of people left one after another. During this great crisis, they held on, waiting for a new normal.
Even in those circumstances, the people of Saigon maintained their generous spirit and shared sense of community responsibility through various forms of charity.
The historical portrayal of Southern Vietnam is written in a gentle style, ensuring clear citations and a well-structured, systematic presentation of the content.
Alongside the stories are valuable illustrations and photographs, adding a few touches to the overall picture of Southern Vietnam in general and Saigon in particular.
Nguyen Quang Dieu, 40 years old, was born in Tam Ky ( Quang Nam province ) and currently lives and works in Saigon.
