This morning (May 16), the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue informed that Bac Binh district is actively overcoming the consequences of heavy rain and storms in the area in recent days, causing more than 40 hectares of rice to be flooded and one house to have its roof blown off, with estimated damage of about 460 million VND.
Accordingly, from May 7 to 9, in Bac Binh district, thunderstorms, whirlwinds, and strong gusts of wind often occurred in the afternoon and evening. In particular, rain and whirlwinds caused flooding in some areas of summer-autumn rice during the planting period and blew off the roof of a house in Thai Hoa village, Hong Thai commune. Regarding agricultural production, heavy rain flooded 42 hectares of summer-autumn rice from 1 to 10 days old. Of which, 18 hectares were in Luong Son town and 24 hectares in Cho Lau town.
Immediately after the disaster, communes and towns including Luong Son, Cho Lau, and Hong Thai inspected the crop areas flooded by heavy rain. At the same time, they mobilized people to regularly inspect fields and dredge and clear water flows to minimize the flooded area. At the same time, Hong Thai commune mobilized shock troops to support and help families whose houses had their roofs blown off to overcome the damage caused by storms and whirlwinds.
The Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is requesting the People's Committee of Bac Binh district to direct relevant departments and People's Committees of affected communes and towns to inspect and assess the damage, guide people on support procedures, and synthesize and advise the District People's Committee on how to handle the situation, and soon stabilize the lives of people in the affected areas. At the same time, it is said that it is currently the beginning of the rainy season, with frequent rain accompanied by thunderstorms and tornadoes. Therefore, localities need to regularly provide information on the weather situation to promptly notify local people of bad weather conditions, the possibility of heavy rain, flooding, and storms accompanied by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind. Notably, at this time, localities are planting the summer-autumn crop, so flooding in agricultural fields is very likely to occur.
