From yesterday evening to today noon (August 25), in 17 coastal communes and wards and some communes in mountainous areas, areas at high risk of landslides, and low-lying areas in Ha Tinh, more than 7,000 households were evacuated to shelters at community cultural houses, headquarters of agencies, units, schools, etc.
To support people at temporary shelters, mass organizations such as the Youth Union, Women's Union, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Red Cross Society... together with the army, police, militia and self-defense forces... have promoted their sense of responsibility from transportation, evacuation support to ensuring logistics, health care and living conditions for people at shelters.
At the shelter at Bac Hong Kindergarten, the Women's Union of Bac Hong Linh Ward coordinated with the Youth Union to clean up, set up beds, and prepare blankets for the people. The members also directly cooked, distributed drinking water, and took care of each meal for the people.
In Dan Hai commune - one of the most vulnerable areas, the commune's youth union was present in time with the functional forces to support the evacuation of the elderly, children, and disabled people to a safe place.
Ms. Vo Thi Thuy An - Vice Chairwoman of the Commune Fatherland Front Committee, Secretary of the Dan Hai Commune Youth Union said: "Since August 23, when information about storm No. 5 began to be received, the Commune Youth Union mobilized the local Youth Union force with more than 300 people to support the reinforcement of houses, clear traffic corridors, evacuate people, and support logistics points to avoid storms and floods. Currently, the Youth Union is participating in logistics support to support people at storm shelters."
At the storm shelters at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Ky Loi commune (old) and the Medical Station of Ky Loi commune (old), from early morning, members of the Women's Union of Song Tri ward were present to prepare meals, drinking water and provide medicine for the people. The Veterans Association and the Fatherland Front of Song Tri ward also actively propagated and mobilized people not to be subjective about the storm's developments, and at the same time supported households with special difficulties in moving and taking shelter. Teachers of Ky Nam Kindergarten, youth union members, and the Women's Union of Hoanh Son Ward prepare meals for families in Minh Duc TDP who are being evacuated due to the impact of storm No. 5.
Meals, warm blankets and caring handshakes during storms help people gain confidence to overcome natural disasters together.
To support people in taking shelter safely, many hotels, motels, and accommodation facilities in wards and communes have also opened their doors for free to welcome evacuees. In the photo: Phu Minh Gia Resort (Co Dam Commune) announced support for storm shelters and people taking shelter at Thien Cam Resort (Thien Cam Commune).
Previously, the forces also actively supported people in reinforcing roofs and doors, moving assets and livestock to safe places, supporting the harvesting of agricultural products, preparing supplies, life buoys and necessary necessities, etc.
The timely, dedicated and responsible cooperation of organizations, individuals and armed forces in localities contributed to ensuring temporary livelihoods for people and spreading the spirit of solidarity and friendship in times of trouble.
This is the strength of the community - a solid foundation that helps people to be more confident and the government to be more determined in the fight against natural disasters, protecting the safety of people's lives and property.
