Opening of the OCOP forum in the Mekong Delta region

On the evening of September 25, in Long Xuyen ward, An Giang province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang province to organize the opening ceremony of the OCOP Forum in the Mekong Delta region in 2025 with the theme "Linking for mutual development - An Giang 2025".

According to the assessment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the Mekong Delta is the pillar of ensuring food security, the center of large-scale agricultural production of rice, aquatic products, and fruits of the whole country. The Mekong Delta currently accounts for 55% of the total rice output, 56% of aquatic products output, and nearly 32% of the fruit output of the whole country.

In recent times, the Mekong Delta has made strong changes, leading the transformation of the agricultural growth model towards green, emission reduction, digital transformation and multi-value integration, linking production with deep processing, developing services and rural tourism, gradually developing sustainably, and adapting to climate change.

With that role, in 2021, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the orientation and direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Mekong Delta OCOP Product Connection Forum has become an annual event, rotating among the localities of the region.

After 4 times of organization, the forum has formed a common event, creating a space for connection, exchange, sharing and cooperation in production, promotion and trade of OCOP products of the region. In addition, the forum is also a space for consumers and domestic and foreign distribution enterprises to access, experience and trade OCOP products.

The Mekong Delta OCOP Product Connection Forum 2025, taking place from September 25 to 28, is an important event for the Mekong Delta OCOP Program in particular and the whole country in general to enter a new phase.

Within the framework of the OCOP forum in the Mekong Delta region in 2025, practical activities will take place such as: Conference on connecting trade of OCOP products in the Mekong Delta region, chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, which is a meeting place between businesses, distributors and OCOP entities to promote domestic and international product consumption; contest of typical OCOP products in the Mekong Delta region, to honor unique, creative products with the potential to reach out to the international market; space for displaying, introducing and trading OCOP products in the Mekong Delta region; space for displaying typical OCOP products of Vietnam to introduce typical OCOP products nationwide, combining exhibitions, introducing regional specialties and livestream activities to promote and connect product consumption.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said: Over the past 15 years, the National Target Program on New Rural Development has achieved great achievements, creating a turning point in agricultural and rural development. In particular, the OCOP Program has been strongly and deeply implemented, becoming a highlight in rural economic development associated with new rural development.

Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam emphasized: With many potentials and advantages, the Mekong Delta currently has the second largest number of OCOP products in the country, after the Red River Delta with more than 3,900 products of more than 2,000 OCOP entities achieving 3 stars or more. Among them, the proportion of OCOP products is food, accounting for the majority at 82.3%. That result reflects the appropriate approach and direction in developing OCOP products in localities, exploiting the advantages of the region in fruits, seafood, rice, to develop unique products with the characteristics of the Mekong Delta region.

To develop OCOP products in the period of 2026-2030, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam suggested that provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta need to pay attention, build plans and development orientations, and strengthen product quality management associated with developing reputable OCOP product brands domestically and for export in an environmentally friendly, green and sustainable direction. In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to building OCOP specialty raw material areas according to production planning and standards. At the same time, develop OCOP products associated with tourism development, traditional cultural festivals and organize events to create open spaces to promote OCOP products...
