Enthusiastic, close-to-the-people hamlet secretaries

Although they were still confused when taking on new tasks, with a sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and closeness, many hamlet party cell secretaries in Vinh Thuan commune (An Giang province) quickly built trust with party members and people in the hamlet, contributing to building a locality that is increasingly innovative, united and sustainably developed.

“The road is a bit difficult to travel, let me take you, people from other places coming here can easily get lost”, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong (35 years old) - Secretary of Vinh Trinh Hamlet Party Cell, Vinh Thuan Commune told me when I contacted her to ask about traditional occupations in Vinh Trinh Hamlet. My first impression of Ms. Huong was that she was an approachable, agile, and smiling woman.

According to Ms. Huong, she used to be the Chief of the Office of the Party Committee of Vinh Thuan Commune (old). After the commune merger, she was assigned to Vinh Trinh Hamlet, holding the position of Secretary of the Hamlet Party Cell. “At first, I was very worried when I took on this task because it was completely different from my previous job. But fortunately, I received enthusiastic support and guidance from the Party members and cadres of Vinh Trinh Hamlet, so I quickly got used to the new job. Although it was not a long time, I already felt love for the job and attached to the cadres, Party members and people in the hamlet,” Ms. Huong said.

Vinh Trinh Hamlet currently has 578 households and 1,735 people. Since taking on the task, every afternoon, Ms. Huong and the hamlet Party Committee and leadership have visited each household, directly listening to the people's thoughts and aspirations to reflect or advise competent authorities to resolve. Ms. Huong and I visited the Nhat Hao banana candy production facility. As soon as we arrived, she quickly put down her bag and hat to support Mr. Nguyen Van Minh and his wife - the owner of the facility - who were busy packaging candy.

“For me, to understand the people, I have to be close to them, work with them to know their difficulties and hardships. When I visit a family, I will join in whatever they do, from weaving, making candy, weaving mats or even milling rice. Thanks to that, people quickly open up to me, chat intimately, and from there I can grasp the situation of the hamlet very quickly,” Ms. Huong happily said.

Working and talking with Ms. Huong and Mr. Minh and his wife, I felt the distance between the staff and the people was closer than ever. Mr. Minh said: “Every 4-5 days, Ms. Huong calls to ask about the family business situation. She also proactively introduces acquaintances and friends to buy and order our candy products. Ms. Huong encourages us to continue to maintain this traditional profession. If you encounter difficulties with machinery, equipment or product output, just call her, she will advise the commune to support quickly.”

Leaving Vinh Trinh hamlet, I went to Kenh 14 hamlet and met Mr. Le Thuy Em (29 years old) - Secretary of Kenh 14 hamlet Party Cell. Previously, he was Deputy Secretary of Vinh Thuan Commune Youth Union (old). After the merger, he was assigned to hold the position of Secretary of Kenh 14 hamlet Party Cell of the new Vinh Thuan commune. Mr. Thuy Em shared: "Since taking on the task, I have always shown a spirit of learning. I have received help from experienced cadres and party members in the hamlet, from reporting closely on the local situation to wholehearted support in mobilizing people."

Up to now, Mr. Thuy Em, the hamlet Party Cell and the people have successfully implemented a 1km long national flag road model; a model of lighting up the countryside roads with 64 solar-powered bulbs and 31 bulbs using electricity from households. Party members, cadres and people of the hamlet have actively built green fences, cleaned, patched roads, cleared trees, etc. to create a green, clean and beautiful landscape.

Mr. Thuy Em believes that if he wants people and party members in the hamlet to listen, believe and follow, the party cell secretary must set an example. In all local activities and movements, he is always the pioneer; wherever he goes, he will mobilize people to participate. Thanks to that, he is trusted, supported and actively participated in the movements he promotes.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Thuan Commune Vo Van Kieu commented: "Comrades Hoang Thi Huong and Le Tuy Em are both exemplary, enthusiastic, pioneering cadres and Party members with a high sense of responsibility, devoted to the community and the People. Although this is a new task, the two comrades quickly caught up and had a spirit of learning. The Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws as well as the documents and plans of the province and commune were all deployed by the two comrades to Party members and the People."
