Landslide in Khanh Son Pass area, 2 people buried

At around 6pm on November 16, at Tuong Vy stream area on Khanh Son pass (Provincial Road 9) in Cam An commune, a serious landslide occurred, burying 2 people, seriously injuring 1 person, and injuring 7 lucky survivors. At around 11:55pm, 1 victim was brought out of the landslide area.

Present at the scene, reporters from Khanh Hoa Newspaper, Radio and Television recorded that the Tuong Vy stream area was covered with rocks and soil, burying the streambed and spilling onto Provincial Road 9. Ancient trees were uprooted, many motorbikes were lying around, and shacks were buried...

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of the Provincial Police; the Police, Military , Security and Order Protection Forces at the grassroots level of Cam An Commune, the Road Management Department... mobilized vehicles, made efforts to search and at about 23:55, brought 1 victim out of the landslide area.

Mr. Chamaléa Nhat - one of the 7 lucky survivors recounted: “Our group had a total of 10 people, all ethnic minorities in Cong Hai commune, who were hired to clear the forest; we set up camp in the area along Tuong Vy stream to spend the night. At about 6 p.m., we had just finished eating and were preparing to sleep when we heard a loud rumble of rocks and soil falling from above. I and some people were herded near the road, luckily we were only slightly buried and had minor injuries. Chamalé Sieng and Pinang Sung were buried by rocks and soil, one person was seriously injured, and Mrs. Pi Nang To had 2 toes cut off. We were slightly injured so we immediately ran down to the nearby workers' hut to call for help.”

Authorities are continuing to use motorbikes to pull and move large blocks of rock, making efforts to search and rescue the remaining victims.

However, at the scene, landslides continued, so authorities had to temporarily move to a safe area, waiting for favorable conditions to continue searching when conditions permit.
