When it comes to Japanese flowers, cherry blossoms are always a prominent symbol, making spring a peak tourist season that attracts a large number of international visitors.
However, it's not just in spring that visitors to the Land of the Rising Sun have the opportunity to admire many beautiful and unique flowering seasons. Thanks to the differences in climate between regions, each type of flower has its own distinct character, offering a fresh experience for visitors.
In early summer, wisteria, azaleas, and roses begin to bloom. As summer reaches its peak, vast fields of lavender and sunflowers stretch across the landscape, becoming a major tourist attraction.
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam, the period from May to July is the ideal time to explore the natural beauty around Tokyo, as the crowds are less intense than during the cherry blossom season. This is also when visitors can leisurely enjoy the peaceful beauty of gardens and flower parks.
One of the standout destinations is Ashikaga Flower Park in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. The park is considered one of the most famous wisteria viewing spots in Japan. In 2014, it was even named one of CNN's "Top 10 Dream Destinations in the World ".
The wisteria flowers in the park are usually at their most beautiful from late April to early May. The park grounds boast over 350 varieties of wisteria, most notably the giant wisteria trellis, over 160 years old, which is recognized as a Tochigi Prefecture Natural Heritage site. The climbing vines form a large arch with clusters of flowers cascading down softly, creating a truly impressive sight.
Every year, the park also hosts the "Wisteria Story" festival, scheduled from April 11th to May 20th, featuring a nighttime lighting program that creates a magical atmosphere. During this time, wisteria flowers, combined with the vibrant colors of azaleas, bloom profusely, creating a dazzling springtime scene.

Tourists experience various activities at Ibaraki Flower Park.
In addition, visitors can also visit Ibaraki Flower Park in Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, to enjoy the early summer rose season. The park is famous for its more than 900 varieties of roses and approximately 9,000 plants, which bloom from mid-May to early June, covering the grounds with vibrant red and pink hues and a sweet fragrance.
Besides admiring the flowers, visitors can also participate in many hands-on activities such as making rose-scented perfume or learning flower arranging. The park's approximately 12-hectare grounds offer a relaxing space where visitors can stroll amidst nature, listening to the rustling leaves and birdsong in the gentle early summer breeze.
An ideal place to escape the summer heat is Tambara Lavender Park. Here, the gentle scent of lavender carried on the highland breeze will bring a sense of peace and relaxation to visitors.

The vast fields of purple flowers that stretch across the park are always a favorite attraction for visitors.
According to JNTO, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan in January 2026 reached 52,800 and in February reached 61,000, representing increases of 4.7% and decreases of 17.4% respectively compared to the same period last year. Overall, in the first two months of the year, Japan attracted 113,800 visitors from Vietnam, a decrease of 8.4% compared to 2025.
