When the Youth Union and Association at all levels become effective 'assistants' in HIV/AIDS prevention

According to a report by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Quang Ninh province, by the end of the first quarter of 2025, Quang Ninh recorded 30 newly investigated and identified HIV-infected people, the total number of HIV-infected people still living in the province is 5,826 people, the rate of people receiving ARV drugs for treatment is 88.3%. Currently, HIV-infected patients are being managed and supported by functional forces and local medical facilities.

In recent times, to reduce the number of people infected with HIV in the community, Quang Ninh has issued many documents and directives to promote HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the area, in accordance with each stage. In particular, propaganda work has always been considered the top priority task in HIV/AIDS prevention and control. In particular, this work has the active participation of all levels and sectors, integrated with socio -economic development programs of each department, sector, organization and locality. Thereby contributing to improving community health and reducing HIV/AIDS infection.

Quang Ninh also has many good models in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, typically clubs such as: For a Bright Tomorrow, Dong Vong, Dat Mo, Hoa Huong Duong, Bien Xanh, Nhip Cau... This is a place to exchange, share, help and care for each other in life. HIV/AIDS prevention and control movements are promoted from the province to the grassroots, such as: "All people participate in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the community", campaign to prevent HIV transmission from mother to child, National Action Month for HIV/AIDS prevention and control... Communication activities have significantly improved discrimination, people's knowledge about HIV/AIDS is increasing.

When Youth Unions and Associations at all levels actively push back HIV

Since 1999, the Empathy Club model of the Women's Union of Quang Ninh province was established. Up to now, the whole province has dozens of clubs with thousands of members participating and connecting into an Empathy Club Alliance. Coming to the Club, members are provided with basic knowledge and the latest information about HIV/AIDS, about care and prevention of HIV infection... Another model of the Provincial Women's Union is the Club for Young Women Living with HIV, the Friendly Club has also been established. Through the activities of the Club, the sisters live happier and they themselves have become active propagandists in the work of preventing and fighting AIDS.

In order to help groups and clubs improve their operational capacity, the Quang Ninh Women's Union regularly holds training courses on topics such as home care, group management skills, report writing, planning, etc. Groups and clubs express their aspirations to overcome difficulties, live a useful life and be respected by everyone. For this aspiration to become a reality, it requires the attention of the whole society, in which the Women's Union organizations have recognized their responsibility.

To improve the capacity of communication on HIV/AIDS prevention and control for all levels of the Youth Union, every year, Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union organizes training and fostering for Youth Union officials to do communication work on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and establishes a network of volunteers to participate in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the community. In addition, it proactively develops many clubs and groups so that the HIV/AIDS prevention and control movement goes into depth and achieves effectiveness.

The Youth Union at all levels also promotes propaganda activities to raise awareness among the general public, and young people in particular, about HIV/AIDS. One of the effective forms is propaganda through "Touring Teams from Village to Village". Models of HIV/AIDS prevention and control among young people are also increasingly diverse, such as: "Building a young, cultured family" with standards: Marriage at the right age, equality between husband and wife... or establishing Friends Helping Friends Clubs, Pre-marital Clubs, Healthy Living Clubs... to educate rural youth about HIV/AIDS.

In order to promote and improve the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention, in the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union, the Youth Union, the Women's Union and other associations and organizations of Quang Ninh province will continue to direct all levels of associations and unions to strengthen propaganda activities to improve knowledge for young people on how to prevent HIV/AIDS infection. At the same time, support and advise infected people to help them reintegrate into the community. Thereby reducing the rate of HIV infection among young people.

The National Press Award on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control is an award organized by the Health & Life Newspaper in collaboration with the Department of Disease Prevention (Ministry of Health), to honor outstanding press works that truly reflect typical individuals and groups in all regions of the country in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

RULES OF THE "NATIONAL PRESS AWARD ON HIV/AIDS PREVENTION AND CONTROL" ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1. Name of the Award

"National Press Award on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control"

Article 2. Topics

Outstanding individuals and groups from all over the country in the fight against HIV/AIDS; vividly reflecting the efforts and contributions of groups and individuals in propaganda, prevention, care, treatment and support for people infected with HIV/AIDS and vulnerable groups; contributing to eliminating stigma and discrimination, spreading the spirit of humanity and community responsibility.

Article 3. Contestants

All Vietnamese citizens aged 18 and over, living in and outside the country. Members of the Organizing Committee, Jury, and Secretariat are not allowed to participate.

Article 4. Regulations on contest entries

1. Genre:

- Reportage, memoir, notes, portrait

- Photo: Reportage with at least 10 photos, telling a story through images on a topic related to HIV/AIDS.

- Television, multimedia: Television programs, documentaries on traditional platforms (TV) or electronic platforms, social networks.

2. Form of expression:

Entries can be in many different forms:

- In traditional form (article, video) In new form: Infographic, emagazine, megastory, longform... or combine many forms in one work to best convey the content, message and meaning of the work.

Note:

We do not accept works in the genre of news or regular events related to HIV/AIDS. All works must have specific topics, be in-depth, have clear ideas and characters.

Do not use fictional characters; do not use special effects to change content or images; do not use artificial intelligence to create works.

3. Contest conditions of the work

- Eligible works must be published and broadcast from July 10, 2024 to November 20, 2025.

- For cases that have not been published or broadcast: The Organizing Committee will select to publish on the Health and Life Newspaper and the Newspaper's ecosystem.

- The Organizing Committee has the right to disqualify incomplete or non-compliant applications.

- The Organizing Committee will not return unqualified works.
