When GenZ is "superstitious" about following AI "fortune tellers"

(PLVN) - In the age of technological development, Gen Z - the young generation growing up with social networks and artificial intelligence - is having a completely different approach to spiritual beliefs.

No more fortune-telling sessions at street vendors, no more amulets in their pockets, Gen Z can now check their fate with AI, order feng shui charms according to their zodiac signs with a click of a mouse. When spirituality and technology intertwine, when “belief” is no longer associated with traditional rituals but transformed into a modern style, is this a new trend among young people?

AI fortune telling - "fortune teller" in the technology era

If in the past, fortune-telling was often associated with palm lines and horoscopes, now Gen Z can receive a “prophecy” from artificial intelligence (AI) with just a few clicks. Without having to sit for hours in front of a fortune teller, nor having to wait in line for their turn to have their fortune told, today’s young generation is gradually shifting from traditional fortune-telling to a digital space, where AI plays the role of a “judge” in the technology era.

Yen Nhi (20 years old, Hanoi ), a fan of technology fortune-telling, shared: “Before, I used to read tarot at coffee shops, but now I just need to open my phone to get the results. Once I tried a dream interpretation app, unexpectedly it predicted my situation 80% correctly.”

This trend quickly spread thanks to a series of applications such as Co-Star, The Pattern, AstroGPT, providing services such as horoscope prediction, tarot card reading, calculating good dates and times, and even decoding dreams in just a few seconds.

Instead of relying on the intuition of a fortune teller, AI analyzes personal data, compares algorithms, and then makes judgments about personality, career, love, or fate. Many users share surprising experiences: "This app deciphers dreams so accurately!", "AI tarot reading is 90% accurate, I don't believe it!". Videos testing AI fortune telling also quickly became a trend on TikTok and Facebook, attracting thousands of views and comments.

However, most Gen Zers approach this trend with a “half-believing, half-skeptical” mentality. Not everyone completely believes in AI’s predictions, but curiosity is enough to motivate them to try it out. Thu Thuy (21 years old, Tuyen Quang ) also tried AI fortune-telling and was surprised by the results: “I don’t believe in fortune-telling, but when I entered information into a horoscope app, AI analyzed my personality very closely. I think it may not be completely correct, but the way it connects the data is really impressive.”

A sense of both skepticism and excitement, combined with virality on social media, has helped make AI fortune telling a phenomenon in the world of young people.

Gen Z is “modernizing” spirituality

Young people today still believe in spiritual values, but instead of carrying items imbued with traditional beliefs, they choose feng shui charms, energy stone bracelets, and zodiac rings - items that both bring good luck and express their fashion personality.

This change reflects a modern mindset, where feng shui is not only a spiritual belief, but also a part of lifestyle. Online shops and jewelry brands quickly grasp the trend, constantly updating charm models according to the 12 zodiac signs, stone bracelets according to the five elements, feng shui rings with attractive introductions: "Increase fortune", "Improve love", "Repel bad energy". It is the combination of spirituality and fashion that has made these items popular, appearing densely on TikTok Shop, Shopee, Instagram with thousands of purchases.

The feng shui accessories market is growing strongly, with a series of brands specializing in selling products specifically for young people, which are both feng shui, sophisticated and modern.

It is also from this need that the feng shui accessories market is growing strongly, with a series of brands specializing in selling products specifically for young people, both feng shui, sophisticated and modern. In a world that is constantly changing, spiritual beliefs are also "changing" to better suit the trends of the times.

The balance between reason and faith

It can be seen that young people no longer put all their faith in baseless judgments, nor do they completely deny the existence of spiritual elements. Instead, they seek a balance between reason and faith, where spirituality becomes a tool to maintain mental stability, rather than an absolute truth that governs life.

Instead of traditional fortune telling, many young people choose a more logical approach, combining science and religion. They are not blindly superstitious, but consider spiritual forms as a way to relieve stress and find direction in life. AI fortune telling applications not only make predictions about fate, but also integrate psychological advice, helping users understand themselves better.

It is this intersection that makes many people feel more secure when facing the future, because they believe they are receiving information from a data analysis system rather than from baseless prophecies.

Modern technology has not only changed the way Gen Z approaches spirituality, but has also blurred the line between science and superstition. A person can believe in AI, horoscopes, and buy feng shui charms, creating a new and flexible approach to personal beliefs.

In a world where science and technology are constantly developing, young people are creating their own belief system—modern, spiritual, personal, but not completely divorced from traditional values. This is no longer a one-sided superstition, but an adaptation of the new generation to the changes of the times.
