The Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang Border Gate expressway, once completed, will shorten travel time between Dien Bien and Hanoi and other key economic regions; reduce pressure on existing national highways; and create conditions to promote investment attraction, tourism development, logistics, border trade, and service industries.

The project is also expected to contribute to the development of Dien Bien Phu city and the Dien Bien Phu - Muong Thanh inter-ward urban area into an economic, service, and dynamic urban center of the province, in accordance with the planning orientation. This is also a concrete step towards realizing the goal of making Dien Bien a province developed in the direction of a green, smart, and sustainable economy by 2030, and one of the tourism centers of the region.
