National Highway 1 is currently the main traffic artery, but vehicles frequently get stuck at Dinh intersection, especially during rush hour.
The project has a total investment of 397.5 billion VND, of which the most important is the construction package worth over 178 billion VND. The Transport Department plans to tender for the main contractor in the fourth quarter of this year to expedite project construction.
The project to build the Dinh intersection was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016 and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee allocated funds for investment preparation at the end of 2019. However, the project has faced many difficulties over the years, from securing funding to consulting on design, and only now has a plan to start construction.
The Dinh intersection, located in the northwestern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City, features a 600-meter-long overpass on National Highway 1, with the bridge itself measuring 240 meters in length and over 17 meters in width, accommodating four lanes of traffic. The structure is designed to last 100 years and withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake. Simultaneously, three roads passing through the intersection – Nguyen Van Qua, Tan Thoi Hiep 20, and Nguyen Thi Dang – have been widened. The surrounding drainage, lighting, and landscaping systems have been fully constructed.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, National Highway 1 is currently the main traffic artery, but traffic at Dinh intersection is frequently congested, especially during rush hour. The completed overpass, designed to accommodate vehicles traveling at 80 km/h, along with the expansion of the road section through the intersection, will help reduce congestion in the area.
Along with the Dinh intersection, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed that the city soon allocate investment capital for 15 other major intersections to synchronize the traffic network and reduce congestion in areas such as the Linh Xuan intersection (National Highway 1 - 1K), Nguyen Thi Dinh - Nguyen Duy Trinh intersection (Thu Duc City); Bon Xa intersection (Thoai Ngoc Hau - Huong Lo 2 - Le Van Quoi, Tan Phu and Binh Tan districts)...
