In the context of the province's efforts to strengthen regional linkages, invest in transportation infrastructure, and attract large enterprises, logistics is expected to become an important service sector, creating momentum for economic growth.
Great potential
According to the Dak Lak Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, logistics is identified as a crucial service sector, contributing to supporting production, trade, import and export, and value chain linkages. This also forms the foundation for the province to aim to become a regional center in the Central Highlands for high-tech agriculture , deep processing industries, trade, and logistics.
Dak Lak 's greatest advantage is its central geographical location. From the province, it's easy to connect with the Central Coast, the Southeast region, and the East-West economic corridor. Dak Lak also has a large supply of agricultural products, with key export items such as coffee, pepper, durian, and other fruits.
In particular, the central and provincial governments are focusing on investing in strategic transportation routes such as the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot expressway, the Buon Ma Thuot - Gia Nghia expressway, and national highways 26, 27, and 29. This will create favorable conditions for connecting the Central Highlands with the central port system and major economic centers. This is considered an important prerequisite for the formation of large-scale logistics centers, warehouses, and goods transshipment points.

Despite its potential, the province's logistics sector is still in its early stages of development. The majority of logistics businesses are small-scale, operating in a fragmented manner, lacking coordination and specialized logistics services. Many agricultural processing and export businesses still have to transport goods to coastal provinces for warehousing, containerization, and export procedures. This leads to increased costs, longer transportation times, and reduced competitiveness of local goods.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Han, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial Logistics and Port Association, stated that logistics, transportation, warehousing, and supply chain businesses in the province remain fragmented; their ability to connect, access information, and cooperate is limited. Meanwhile, the province still lacks modern logistics centers, inland ports, cold storage facilities, and multimodal transport systems. This is a major bottleneck hindering businesses from reducing costs and expanding production scale.
Furthermore, there is a shortage of high-quality logistics human resources; the application of digital transformation, green logistics, and modern supply chain management has not yet met development requirements. These "bottlenecks" are directly affecting the competitiveness of businesses and the attractiveness of local investments.
Paving the way for a modern logistics ecosystem.
In this context, the establishment of the Dak Lak Provincial Logistics and Port Association is expected to create a significant turning point for the local logistics industry. Beyond connecting the logistics business community, the association will also act as a bridge between businesses and the government, as well as domestic and international logistics centers and ports. This is seen as a foundation for gradually forming a modern and integrated logistics ecosystem for the province.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Han, the association will focus on promoting linkages between logistics, transportation, warehousing, and import-export businesses to create a synchronized service value chain, reduce logistics costs, and enhance the competitiveness of local goods; while also advising the province on appropriate solutions to address challenges.

In outlining the direction for the activities of the Dak Lak Provincial Logistics and Port Association, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Do Huu Huy emphasized: In the new phase, logistics is identified as a crucial service sector, linked to the province's development pillars. The logistics business community needs to focus on developing from "single-service" to "integrated service chains"; linking logistics with agriculture and processing industries; developing modern, digitized logistics; and forming leading enterprises with strong linkage capabilities.
The Dak Lak Provincial Logistics and Port Association needs to focus on building a cohesive and professional organization; strengthening linkages between transportation, warehousing, import-export, and manufacturing businesses to form a synchronized supply chain, reduce costs, and enhance the value of key agricultural products; and proactively participating in proposing solutions for infrastructure development, promoting the formation of logistics centers, inland ports, and inter-regional transportation connections. The Association also needs to prioritize developing high-quality human resources, promoting digital transformation, applying technology, and playing a bridging role between businesses and the government.
In the coming period, the province will "commission" the association to soon establish 1-2 large-scale logistics centers; develop a cold storage system to serve agricultural exports; participate directly in the export chain of key products, gradually reduce logistics costs per unit of goods, and contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the local economy.
