This point was emphasized by Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung in his opening speech at the 5th National Forum on the Development of Digital Technology Enterprises in Vietnam - 2023, held on the morning of December 11th.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung stated that the forum is a time for us to look back, summarize, and evaluate the development, and to honor outstanding digital technology businesses through the Make in Vietnam digital technology product award.

These are outstanding digital technology products designed, created, and manufactured in Vietnam, which have a significant impact on bringing the activities of citizens, businesses, and the government to the digital environment, contributing to the promotion of digital government, digital economy , and digital society.

" Without 'Make in Vietnam,' Vietnam cannot become a developed country. Without 'Make in Vietnam,' we cannot go out into the world . Without 'Make in Vietnam,' Vietnam cannot be self-reliant. Without 'Make in Vietnam,' Vietnam cannot be strong and prosperous ," the Minister of Information and Communications affirmed.

Looking back over the past four years, from 2019 to the present, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung assessed that Vietnam's digital technology industry has made very encouraging progress and maturity.

The Minister cited a 30% increase in the number of digital technology businesses, a 32% increase in digital technology industry revenue, and an increase in the "Make in Vietnam" proportion of digital technology products from 21% to 29%. The software production sector for foreign clients alone grew by 43%, and we currently have over 1,400 such businesses with revenues approaching $10 billion.

According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, in 2019, we named and gave birth to the Vietnamese digital technology business community, with the mission "Make in Vietnam": " Research in Vietnam - Innovate in Vietnam - Produce in Vietnam, contributing to helping Vietnam escape the middle-income trap and realize the aspiration of a strong and prosperous Vietnam. Vietnam is not just about assembly and processing, but also about creating Vietnamese products, solving Vietnamese problems, and from there going global."

" If you want to go far, you must remember this original mission ," the Minister emphasized.

Referring to the theme of this year's forum, which is also the theme for 2024, "Innovating digital applications to develop the digital economy - A driving force for economic growth and labor productivity," Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung stated that the most important aspect of developing the digital economy is digital applications and digital transformation applications for various industries.

" So who will do this? It should be the network operators, the digital technology businesses, because we have the infrastructure, the technology, the human resources, and the understanding of digital transformation. We must be the ones to create digital transformation applications for various industries. For the past few years, we have left this to the industries, and therefore the development of digital transformation in Vietnam has been very slow ," said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung.

The Minister of Information and Communications stated that developing digital applications for various industries is essentially about creating products, and that is essentially "Make in Vietnam." Network operators and digital technology businesses must consider this a research and development activity.

According to the Minister, Vietnamese digital technology businesses now have a new mission: to industrialize and modernize the country through the creation of digital applications and digital transformation for various industries and sectors.

" Developing the digital economy in various sectors is also a way to increase labor productivity in those sectors. For many years, Vietnam has failed to meet its labor productivity targets, so now our solution to this difficult problem is to create digital applications to develop the digital economy in these sectors ," Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said.
