It is forecasted that from the night of October 5 to October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 130-200mm, locally over 350mm. Warning of the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes.

Today (October 5), the Northern and Central regions have local thunderstorms.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of October 5 to October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 130-200mm, locally over 350mm.

In addition, the Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa regions will have moderate to heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 50-150mm, and locally over 200mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>150mm/3 hours). During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

The meteorological agency warned that on the night of October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 20-50mm, and locally over 70mm; other areas of the North and Thanh Hoa will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, and in some places over 50mm.

It is expected that the total rainfall from the night of October 5 to the end of the night of October 7, in the mountainous and midland areas of the North, will generally be from 150-250mm, locally with very heavy rain over 400mm; in the Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa, it will generally be 70-150mm, locally with over 200mm.

Flood warning on rivers in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa

Currently, floods on rivers in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa are receding.

However, from tonight (October 5) to October 9, 2025, on rivers in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa, there is a possibility of a flood, with flood amplitude in the upper reaches of rivers from 4-8m, and in the lower reaches of rivers from 2-5m.

During this flood, flood peaks on rivers in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang provinces; flood peaks on Thao River, Chay River (Lao Cai), Hoang Long River (Ninh Binh), Lo River (Tuyen Quang), Thai Binh River system (Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong) and small rivers reached alert levels 2-3 and above alert level 3; flood peaks at Hoa Binh Lake, Buoi River, Ma River, Chu River (Thanh Hoa), and the lower reaches of the Red River reached alert levels 1-2, in some places above alert level 2.

High risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, urban areas in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa; risk of flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in mountainous areas of the Northern region and Thanh Hoa.

Flood disaster risk warning level: Level 2

Heavy rain and river floods are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

Thunderstorms may contain tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.
