Building the foundation of Vietnamese knowledge.

Over its 50 years of formation and development (1975-2025), the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has gradually built the national science and technology foundation, playing a core role in the science and technology system, and making important contributions to sustainable development, national security, and international integration.

The President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, acting on behalf of the President of Vietnam, presented the First Class Labor Order to the Office of the Academy.

Half a century of building the role of a national science pillar.

On December 23rd, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (Academy) solemnly celebrated its 50th anniversary and announced the awarding of the First-Class and Third-Class Labor Orders.

Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, stated: The Academy was established on May 20, 1975, according to Decree No. 118/CP of the Government Council, based on the Scientific Research Center under the State Committee for Science and Technology. Over half a century of development, generations of leaders, scientists, and staff of the Academy have continuously strived and persevered in research, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, gradually building the Academy into a prestigious center for scientific and technological research in the country and the region.

From its initial research groups in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences, the Academy gradually built research groups into specialized institutes, assembling a team of scientists and investing in research equipment under challenging national conditions; at the same time, it proactively implemented cutting-edge research areas such as basic science, resource and environmental research, and aerospace.

Over the past 50 years, the Academy has played a pivotal role in researching major, interdisciplinary scientific and technological issues; conducting investigations, surveys, and accumulating long-term data; and gradually mastering strategic technologies, core technologies, and source technologies, thereby making significant contributions to the country's long-term sustainable development goals.

Research and scientific publication capabilities have been continuously improved. From initial scientific bulletins, the Academy has now built a system of 12 scientific and technological journals meeting international standards, including 8 journals that meet SCI and Scopus standards; the scientific cooperation network has been expanded with many countries, international scientific organizations, localities, universities and domestic businesses.

Alongside its research activities, the Academy places special emphasis on training high-quality scientific and technological human resources. Over the past 50 years, the Academy has trained tens of thousands of master's and doctoral graduates; establishing prestigious training institutions such as the Academy of Science and Technology, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), and the Institute of Mathematics. To date, 100% of the Academy's doctoral students have at least two scientific publications in international journals upon defending their dissertations.

In addition, the Academy plays a scientific advisory role to the Party and the State, advising the Politburo, the Central Committee, and the Government on many major issues in science and technology, from strategies for developing basic science fields to cutting-edge areas and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Aspiration to reach new heights

Entering a new phase of development, in the context of science and technology playing an increasingly crucial role in rapid and sustainable growth, the Academy of Sciences is determined to continue to promote its role as the country's leading scientific and technological research institution, maintaining its pivotal position in the national science and technology system.

Based on this, the Institute focuses on basic scientific research to develop knowledge and create a foundation for scientific and technological progress; while also promoting applied research, technology transfer and development to serve the industrialization and modernization of the country, protect the environment, and meet national defense and security requirements.

The Academy aims to become a leading scientific and technological research organization in Southeast Asia by 2030, with international competitiveness in several key areas. By 2045, the Academy envisions itself as a high-level scientific and technological research center of regional significance in Asia, playing a leading role in the national science and technology system.

Throughout its development, the Academy has remained steadfast in its fundamental values: honoring knowledge, upholding science, considering creativity as the highest value; engaging in broad cooperation, absorbing the best of global science, linking research with the interests of the country and its people, for sustainable development and national security.

At the ceremony, Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh affirmed that the Academy will continue to uphold its fine and glorious traditions throughout the ages to overcome all difficulties, innovate thinking, proactively integrate, and strive to contribute to the successful achievement of the two strategic goals for the 100-year period set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

On this occasion, the Academy is honored to receive the First-Class Labor Order and the Third-Class Labor Order from the President of Vietnam for its outstanding achievements in research, training, international cooperation, and organizational reform.
