Among the 49 people missing in the devastating flash flood in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province ), a miracle occurred: two households with eight people managed to escape.

This morning, September 13th, local authorities announced that two households with eight people in Lang Nu village who escaped the devastating flash flood on the morning of September 10th have returned safely.

Mr. Hoang Van Diep, head of Lang Nu village, said the two families in question are those of Mr. Hoang Van Tien and Mr. Hoang Van Duan. Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper , Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Yen District, said that local authorities are continuing to verify and cross-check information on these cases, and will announce specific details as soon as they are available. The devastating flood buried 37 out of 167 households with 158 out of 760 people in Lang Nu village. As of the end of September 12th, 49 people from Lang Nu village are still missing. 17 people are receiving treatment for injuries, and 46 people have been confirmed safe. Thus, at this time, the number of people confirmed missing in Lang Nu has decreased to 40. The search operation will continue today. Previously, on the second day of the search, Lao Cai province and Military Region 2 mobilized 650 people to the scene. Military personnel, police, militia, and local residents have cordoned off the area and divided into shifts to search for the missing victim. Eleven officers from the 24th Intermediate School (Border Guard) and five sniffer dogs have been deployed to the scene to assist in the search.
Yesterday afternoon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation visited the scene of the flash flood that killed and left nearly 100 people missing. The Prime Minister offered his condolences to the families of those who died, went missing, or suffered losses in this flood; he also requested that the search and rescue forces change their methods, as families are eagerly awaiting the discovery of the missing; and that the injured receive prompt and adequate medical treatment. The Prime Minister also instructed relevant agencies to survey and plan safe locations and quickly restore the village, no later than the end of this year. He emphasized that Lao Cai province must request the central government for any necessary supplies, ensuring that by December 31st, all residents of Nu Village have a safe place to live. Simultaneously, the Prime Minister tasked the military and police forces, in addition to searching for the missing, with quickly stabilizing the situation for the people and working with Lao Cai province to restore the village, applying special mechanisms to address related issues.
