After the merger, Lam Dong has a coastline of 192 km, with approximately 760 km² of coastal land. The province is also considered one of the three key fishing grounds in the country for seafood exploitation. This is a huge potential that Lam Dong did not have before.

One of Lam Dong's economic advantages is its maritime sector. Currently, maritime transport and port services in the locality have been and will continue to be invested in. Initial results have been promising, through the operation of Phu Quy and Phan Thiet ports, with fleets transporting passengers from the mainland to Phu Quy Island and vice versa. Meanwhile, Vinh Tan port has already facilitated the transportation of fly ash and other materials for the Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plants.

Along with its maritime economy, Lam Dong province has enormous potential for exploiting and cultivating marine products. According to the Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has approximately 6,964 hectares of aquaculture area. On average, the province harvests about 180,000 tons of various types of seafood annually. Aquaculture production is estimated at nearly 15,000 tons. As of the end of August 2025, the production in this sector reached 10,123 tons, an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year.

By 2030, Lam Dong province aims to have 80% of its marine areas protected in terms of biodiversity. The seaport system, logistics, and coastal reforestation will be continuously upgraded to address climate change.

Besides developing the reserves and variety of seafood, Lam Dong, with its beautiful blue sea, is also developing the mining industry, building large seaports, logistics, and renewable energy... Not to mention the booming marine tourism and services, becoming an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.

However, at the same time, dozens of large and small projects across various sectors have yet to be implemented due to numerous reasons. These include incomplete land clearance, overlapping planning, and obstacles related to regulations. The most pressing issue currently is that many projects have not yet been able to determine specific land prices, thus preventing them from proceeding to the next stages. This is why, despite the province's vast coastal resources, it has not yet achieved a breakthrough in development.

Unlocking resources

With its existing potential and advantages, the marine economy is a sector that brings significant value to Lam Dong's economy. Assessing the potential and advantages of the marine economy, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ho Van Muoi, shared: “Lam Dong's coastal land resources are vast. We are very proud of the potential of the marine economy, such as: aquatic and marine resources; tourism; seaports, logistics, renewable energy, and green energy. If developed effectively, this will be one of the key sectors contributing to Lam Dong's GRDP.”

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged that many projects, especially those outside the state budget, are currently facing difficulties and obstacles. Many construction projects are unfinished, suspended, or have not yet commenced operations. Lam Dong is focusing on resolving bottlenecks in land clearance for coastal projects. Lam Dong is determined to address projects that fall under the authority of the central government, those under the authority of the province, and those requiring coordination between the central and provincial governments.

"We will do everything we can to get the project up and running as quickly as possible. This is the only way to solve the problem of wasted land and demonstrate our determination to innovate and boost growth in this potentially lucrative coastal region," said Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi.

According to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province is orienting towards sustainable development of the marine economy combined with ecological conservation. The province will develop synchronously various fields including renewable energy (wind power, wave power), green hydrogen production, high-tech coastal industries, and marine and island tourism. The province is also focusing on strongly developing port services in conjunction with economic zones and industrial parks to promote the processing and export of seafood and mineral products.

Aiming for 20-25% of the province's GRDP.

To develop the marine economy into a key economic sector, in addition to focusing on its potential and advantages, Lam Dong province is implementing many solutions simultaneously. First, the province is focusing on improving and synchronizing infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure.

The province also focuses on developing port logistics and multimodal transport. In particular, the province is promoting the upgrading and development of Vinh Tan and Son My ports into modern logistics hubs. Investment in the development of inland ports to enhance connectivity and improve logistics efficiency, as well as sustainable high-tech aquaculture and seafood processing, are also being prioritized.

Lam Dong province is focusing on developing high-quality marine tourism and services. The central focus of this development is transforming the Mui Ne National Tourist Area into an international-class seaside resort center. The province is also developing the Phu Quy Special Economic Zone into a high-end seaside and island tourism destination, combining marine sports in coastal urban centers... It can be said that the marine economy has made, is making, and will continue to make a significant contribution to Lam Dong's economy.

By 2030, Lam Dong province aims to have a strong maritime economy. Purely maritime economic sectors will contribute approximately 20-25% of the province's GRDP. The average per capita income in coastal communes and the Phu Quy special economic zone will be 1.5-2 times higher than the provincial average.
