Lam Dong province has agreed on the policy of merging provinces and reorganizing commune-level administrative units.

The 20th Conference of the Executive Committee of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, 11th term, was successfully held, reaching a high level of consensus on the policy of establishing a new provincial-level administrative unit based on the merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Dak Nong, and Binh Thuan; and also approving the plan for rearranging commune-level administrative units in the province.

At the conference, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Tran Hong Thai stated that the process of gathering voter opinions was organized systematically, following the correct procedures, ensuring objectivity and transparency, and receiving high consensus from the people. In particular, the naming of new administrative units was carried out flexibly and creatively, linked to the distinctive historical and cultural landmarks of each locality, such as the wards in Da Lat City.

The results of the opinion poll show that the majority of voters agree with both proposals. The approval rate exceeded the 50% threshold stipulated in the regulations; no commune-level administrative unit had to hold a second opinion poll. The highest approval rate was 100%, while the lowest was 81.91%.

Based on that, the conference proceeded to vote and unanimously approved the plan for reorganizing commune-level administrative units in the province. After the reorganization, the entire province will have 51 commune-level administrative units (including 9 wards and 42 communes), a reduction of 86 units, equivalent to 62.77%.

Regarding the plan for reorganizing provincial-level administrative units, the conference unanimously agreed on the principle of merging the entire natural area and population of three provinces: Lam Dong (9,781.20 km², 1,595,597 people), Binh Thuan (7,942.60 km², 1,531,253 people), and Dak Nong (6,509.27 km², 746,149 people) to form a new province - named Lam Dong province, directly under the central government. The administrative center will be located in Da Lat City, Lam Dong province today.

Concluding the conference, Acting Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Thai Hoc emphasized that the merger of provinces and the reorganization of commune-level administrative units is a major policy with strategic significance in streamlining the apparatus and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management. Acting Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Thai Hoc affirmed that the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee will continue to provide decisive and close guidance in the subsequent implementation steps according to the Central Government's roadmap, with the highest determination, despite the numerous difficulties and challenges ahead.
