Doing tourism with community tourism groups.

(QBĐT) - Leveraging the inherent tourism potential of the locality, while simultaneously creating livelihoods and providing sustainable income for ethnic minorities and people in mountainous areas, community-based tourism groups have been established in recent years, initially showing effectiveness and promising new developments in the future. In addition, participating in these groups helps people, especially women, become more dynamic, confident, creative, and adaptable to the demands and requirements of the new tourism market.

In early March, a community-based tourism group was launched in Tan Hoa commune (Minh Hoa district). According to Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Le, Chairwoman of the Minh Hoa District Women's Union, this model aims to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on preserving and promoting the traditional culture of the homeland in conjunction with tourism development in the locality. Through this, it contributes to improving the quality of community-based tourism services at the Tu Lan tourist area in Tan Hoa commune; and promotes community-based tourism towards sustainable tourism development. Notably, the model will preserve and diversify occupations for the local community, improve livelihoods for local people and the lives of women through tourism activities, creating job opportunities and sustainable income.
"Furthermore, the model is designed to ensure practicality, effectiveness, sustainability, and suitability to the actual situation of the locality and unit, attracting widespread participation from women; creating a ripple effect in the community; and promoting initiative and creativity in implementing and replicating models according to the roadmap," Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Le added.

The Community-Based Tourism Team consists of 24 members. After its establishment, the team will implement activities such as: forming cultural performance groups, staging traditional cultural performances to be presented during exchange activities with tourists, based on folk melodies (fish-catching chants, traditional opera, etc.) and dances, and performing musical instruments characteristic of the people of Minh Hoa. The team will also establish a food service team offering traditional specialties made from locally available ingredients, such as: snails, wild bamboo shoots, stream fish, wild vegetables, etc., and will allow tourists to experience the methods of making snails and roasting rice flakes. Booths displaying and introducing traditional products and agricultural products of the locality will be built to serve tourists participating in the model activities.
Members of the tourism group will support and facilitate each other's activities to develop the industry and ensure economic stability on a voluntary, equal, and mutually beneficial basis.
According to Ms. Dinh Thi Lu, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Tan Hoa commune, before the establishment of the Community Tourism Development Group, local women had already actively participated in tourism activities implemented by Oxalis Co., Ltd. Now, with the establishment of the Community Tourism Development Group, the women are even more enthusiastic, proactive, and creative in tourism. In addition, they also offer cooking services to meet the needs of tourists and local people, thus providing them with stable income and greater motivation and enthusiasm for their work.
To ensure the effective operation of the Community-Based Tourism Development Group, vocational training, marketing and sales skills training, digital product marketing, gender equality in employment, livelihood development linked to sustainable environmental protection, and the creation of effective communication materials have been implemented. Simultaneously, promotion, communication, and introduction of the model, as well as collaboration and coordination in organizing experiences for tourists, have been emphasized. Specifically, this includes developing communication materials to promote activities and images on social media; creating promotional channels; connecting the community with the tourism market; and coordinating with Oxalis to introduce and organize experiences for tourists to enjoy the unique culinary traditions of Minh Hoa.
Besides creating livelihoods and preserving the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities and mountainous regions, the establishment of community-based tourism groups is also an effective way to promote the role of women in improving family life. Through this, it contributes to raising the status of women in the community and ensuring gender equality.
Meanwhile, in Kim Thuy commune (Le Thuy district), the Bru-Van Kieu women's community-based cultural tourism group, implemented by the Provincial Women's Union in Ha Lec village, has brought new life to the local community. Ms. Ho Thi Ha, the group leader, shared that since its launch in late December 2024 with 20 members, the group has been operating effectively. Besides welcoming tourists to experience the traditional cultural values and culinary culture of the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic minority, the women in the group also provide cooking services for tourists and local people.
Village head Ha Lec Ho Nhieu said he was very happy that his family's house was a place for tourists to experience local culture. Besides having a stable income, he also had the opportunity to contribute to introducing the unique cultural features of his people to tourists, such as: cuisine, customs, and Bru-Van Kieu folk songs...
Ms. Ho Thi Ha added that in the future, the Ha Lec Village Community Tourism Group hopes to receive further support in promoting and introducing the village to tourists from near and far. Currently, the group is collaborating with Bang Onsen Spa & Resort to welcome guests for experiences, with promising results. In the near future, besides Mr. Ho Nhieu's house, the group will partner with several other households in the village that meet the necessary criteria to serve as tourist attractions and experiences.
In reality, community-based tourism groups are increasingly leveraging their advantages and yielding practical results in developing local tourism, creating sustainable livelihoods for ethnic minorities and people in mountainous areas. Besides immediate support, the people still need long-term collaboration from relevant departments, agencies, organizations, and localities, especially in linking activities, promoting and introducing the model, and developing tourism products that truly reflect the unique and distinctive characteristics of the people. Only then will community-based tourism groups truly have lasting vitality.
