In Dong Tao commune (Khoai Chau), Ms. Pham Thi Chu is known by many people for her diligence and dynamism in developing the family economy , rising to become rich from the model of growing ornamental kumquat trees.
Coming from a family with a traditional profession of growing kumquat trees, Ms. Chu soon learned and became familiar with the work of planting, caring for, and pruning trees. Along with her family's 1 sao of rice field, she hired a contractor to grow 2 more sao of kumquat trees. Initially, she mainly grew kumquat trees using the traditional method of planting on the ground. Due to the lack of techniques for bending and shaping kumquat trees, the income of her family's kumquat garden in the first years was not high. Not discouraged, she continued to spend a lot of time learning the experience and techniques of growing kumquat trees from long-time gardeners in the commune and Van Giang district. During the process of researching and learning, Ms. Chu quickly grasped the trend of playing bonsai kumquat trees (kumquat trees grown in pots, kumquat vases) of the people, so in 2018, she decided to convert the entire area from growing kumquat trees on rice fields to growing bonsai kumquat trees. Thanks to her diligence in caring for and applying the right techniques for bending and shaping, she was successful in her first year of growing bonsai kumquat trees. Currently, Ms. Chu maintains 6 sao of kumquat trees, mainly bonsai kumquat trees. On average, her family sells over 4,000 kumquat trees of all kinds each year. After deducting expenses each year, her family's kumquat garden brings in over 200 million VND in profit.
Ms. Pham Thi Chu shared: Growing kumquat trees is a hard job, requiring meticulous care. Therefore, to have a quality kumquat garden, after each harvest, I take notes and draw experiences to apply to the next harvest. In particular, the income from growing kumquat trees depends on the market each year, so in addition to mastering the techniques, I regularly research the market to find outlets for my family's kumquat trees. Thanks to that, every year my family's kumquat garden is sold out 1 month before Tet.
With diligence, acumen and determination, Ms. Pham Thi Chu has become a typical farmer in economic development, striving to become rich on her homeland.
