Ho Chi Minh City to pilot AI classes for students for the first time

On the afternoon of July 23, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City organized a pilot training course on artificial intelligence (AI) for more than 200 students who won prizes in competitions in Ho Chi Minh City.

This is the first training class for students in Ho Chi Minh City to foster, discover and nurture young talents early, contributing to the sustainable and innovative development of science and technology.

Talking to students, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City said that AI is changing the world every day.

From applications like ChatGPT, self-driving cars, robots or software that can recognize faces, write, compose poems, even play music, draw pictures... all are the power of AI.

And today, “you are the talented young people chosen to explore this wonderful world,” Mr. Lam Dinh Thang emphasized.

According to Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, the AI knowledge training program is designed specifically for students participating in the training class, enthusiastic middle and high school students.

Through 12 lessons, students not only learned more about AI but also developed teamwork skills, creative thinking and oriented their future path in the technology field.

“Who knows, among the students sitting here today, there may be famous scientists, programmers or AI creators in the future,” Mr. Lam Dinh Thang hopes.

Of the 203 students selected to attend the training course, 113 are high school students and 90 are middle school students.

These students come from typical schools in the city such as Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Le Hong Phong High School, Tran Phu Secondary School, Le Quy Don Secondary School, Saigon Practice School...

The program is expected to not only equip high school students with basic and advanced knowledge of AI, but also create a community of students who love, are passionate about, and have the capacity to research and develop AI applications in the near future.

With thorough investment in content and the participation of prestigious lecturers, the 2025 AI pilot training program will be the premise for expanding the AI training model for high school students throughout Ho Chi Minh City in the following years.
