Mr. Tran Minh Sang, Head of the Economic Department of District 5 (Ho Chi Minh City), said: "This festival aims to promote the culinary brand of District 5, with the goal of making District 5 a culinary hub that attracts the attention of tourists and locals, creating a unique and meaningful culinary promotion campaign that benefits the community; making it an unmissable destination."
According to Mr. Sang, District 5 is the ideal dining destination for food connoisseurs, international businesspeople, and tourists alike. "Eat in District 5, sleep in District 3, and wander around District 1" is a long-standing saying, but its value remains undiminished.
Mr. Tran Minh Sang, Head of the Economic Department of District 5, emphasized: "Developing the culinary business is almost like developing the traditional occupation of the Vietnamese-Chinese community, contributing to further shaping the unique identity of the locality."
Ms. Tran Ngoc Nguyet Que, Director of Santani Company - the unit coordinating with the People's Committee of District 5 to organize the event, spoke at the press conference.
Locals and tourists will have the opportunity to experience and enjoy an attractive menu including: Vietnamese cuisine (tea, coffee, coconut water, refreshing drinks, pennywort juice, etc.) and Chinese cuisine (dim sum, braised duck noodles, dumplings, chicken rice, steamed buns, etc.). Notably, diners will also have the chance to participate in the elaborate food preparation process through cooking workshops.
The organizers of the Cho Lon Food Story Festival hope to build a brand for Chinese cuisine, aiming to make District 5 a leading culinary tourism destination in the city.
On this occasion, the organizers also announced several noteworthy details surrounding the short film contest "Delicious Food in District 5" (accepting entries from July 25th to September 15th), with a judging panel including director Ly Minh Thang, actor Hua Vi Van, actor Huynh Lap, and others.
Besides his artistic activities, actor Hui Wei Wen is also the founder and operator of a Chinese restaurant.
Notably, this year's festival features innovative forms of community interaction, allowing people to access online tours of long-standing culinary and cultural sites such as temples, shrines, and assembly halls by scanning QR codes, and to explore exhibitions of Chinese and Southern Vietnamese glass paintings. Additionally, there will be seminars on tourism development and the preservation and adaptation of Vietnamese and Chinese cultures in the modern era.
