Spreading acts of gratitude

The establishment of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27th), associated with the revolutionary homeland of Thai Nguyen, has become a sacred historical milestone. It not only commemorates the sacrifices of generations of heroic martyrs but also places a responsibility on today's generation to care for the lives of those who have contributed to the revolution. From its origin on July 27th, the spirit of "drinking water, remembering the source" has been spreading persistently through the years, through practical and meaningful actions.

Delegates attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new houses for policy beneficiary families and poor households in Tan Ky commune, funded by the Ministry of Public Security , on July 24, 2025.

Seventy-eight years ago, on the afternoon of July 27, 1947, in Ban Co hamlet, Hung Son commune, Dai Tu district, the first rally commemorating "Invalids' Day" was held with the participation of 300 delegates. At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee read a letter from President Ho Chi Minh to wounded soldiers nationwide.

In the letter, the author wrote: “Wounded soldiers are those who have sacrificed their families, sacrificed their blood and lives to protect the Fatherland and their compatriots... Therefore, the Fatherland and its people must be grateful and must help these heroic sons. July 27th is an occasion for our people to show their filial piety, compassion, and love for wounded soldiers...”

In July 1955, the "National War Invalids Day" was changed to "War Invalids and Martyrs Day". After the liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975), July 27th officially became the "War Invalids and Martyrs Day" for the whole country.

Since then, July 27th has become a sacred day of gratitude, carrying profound political , social, and humanitarian significance; it also reminds each person of the tradition of patriotism, national pride, and the responsibility to live, study, work, and contribute to building and protecting the Fatherland in a way that is worthy of the sacrifices of previous generations. Although the war is long over, the spirit of gratitude continues to be preserved and spread in life today.

On the land where the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs originated, the tradition of "Drinking water, remembering the source" is preserved and nurtured through concrete actions. Every year, delegations of Party and State leaders and Thai Nguyen province organize incense offerings at the 27-7 Historical Relic Site, as a sacred ritual to remember the contributions of those who have fallen.

Candlelight ceremonies of gratitude, journeys to historical sites, historical awareness activities, meetings with witnesses... are organized regularly, spreading from the provincial level to the grassroots, contributing to the nurturing of moral values that have become the essence of the nation.

In Thai Nguyen, the concept of "gratitude" is not only present in words, but is also spread through the synchronized and persistent involvement of the entire political system. Before the merger, during the 2021-2025 period, the province completed ahead of schedule the plan to support the construction and repair of nearly 2,000 houses for people with meritorious service, as directed by the Government. Each house handed over not only has material value, but also represents a profound expression of gratitude to those who have rendered meritorious service.

Following the provincial merger, Thai Nguyen continued to mobilize resources and expand support programs to disadvantaged mountainous areas. In accordance with the directive of Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Viet Hung, "The spirit must be higher, the methods must be more creative, and the determination must be clearer," many housing projects for war veterans and martyrs continued to be started and completed on schedule, in anticipation of the 78th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs.

Beyond simply providing support to the right people at the right time, many localities are also proactively improving the quality of infrastructure, ensuring sustainability and convenience.

The Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee of Thai Nguyen province have issued numerous specific documents and programs to care for the material and spiritual lives of those who have rendered meritorious services. Based on this, various sectors, organizations, and localities in the province have simultaneously implemented many practical activities with a strong social impact, supporting wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers with heartfelt dedication and responsibility.

Every year, on July 27th, delegations from the province and various levels of government and localities not only bring heartfelt gifts but also listen to, visit, and share with those who sacrificed their lives and blood for the Fatherland. These handshakes, inquiries, and shared experiences contribute to strengthening the bond between the government and the people, and between the present generation and those who brought independence and freedom to the country.

In addition, thousands of gifts of gratitude have been handed directly to those who have rendered meritorious service; many free medical examinations and treatments have been organized; and activities to beautify cemeteries and care for the graves of martyrs have been regularly maintained.

Traditional education has been intensified in schools and social organizations. Journeys to historical sites, candlelight vigils at martyrs' cemeteries, and gatherings with historical witnesses have helped the younger generation better understand the value of independence and freedom, and deeply appreciate that today's peace is the culmination of the blood and sacrifices of countless generations. Every action, however small, is implemented systematically, with a clear focus, and spreads widely throughout the community.

Leaders of the Provincial Labor Union presented gifts and inspected the progress of demolishing temporary housing at the home of Mr. Hoang Ngoc Ky, a resistance fighter who was exposed to chemical toxins, in Na Lan village, Hiep Luc commune.

Paying tribute to those who contributed to the revolution is not only a moral principle to be preserved through all generations, but also a strong bond connecting the past with the present, fostering faith and aspirations for the future. In the revolutionary land of Thai Nguyen, this tradition is being nurtured and continued through comprehensive policies, the joint efforts of the entire political system, and the sincere feelings of each citizen.

Each house built out of compassion, each act of sharing spread, all serve as sturdy bridges extending the spirit of gratitude to those who have contributed. And to keep that flame of tradition burning brightly, we need to continue to inspire responsibility, creativity, and compassion in every action, no matter how small.

Because gratitude is not just about words or commemorative occasions, but is present in every concrete action, in the way we work together to build a compassionate society, where those who have contributed are always respected, and future generations will always be proud, grateful, and follow in the footsteps that their ancestors have paved with blood and faith.
