In recent days, the new house of Ms. Ho Thi Lien in Tak Cui village (Hamlet 5, Tra Tap commune) has been filled with the laughter and chatter of the village children. Located right next to the main road, the house boasts sturdy walls, tiled floors, and a spacious yard – a testament to the combined efforts of the government, the community, and Ms. Lien's family.

“At the end of 2024, when landslides occurred in our old village, my whole family was forced to leave and move to the Tak Cui resettlement area. However, at the end of 2025, heavy rains continued to cause landslides in the area of our new house, and my family had to move again. This time we have stable housing, our business is stable, and this year's Tet (Lunar New Year) is very happy, without worrying about rain or wind anymore,” Ms. Lien shared.

According to Mr. Ho Van Ta, head of Hamlet 5, not only Mrs. Lien's family, but most households in Tak Cui village have gradually stabilized after the resettlement process. Compared to before, the villagers no longer live in constant fear every time the rainy season comes.

“Before, every rainy season, people were very worried. During heavy rain at night, almost no one could sleep peacefully. They were always afraid of landslides, afraid their houses would collapse, and sometimes they had to stay awake all night to keep watch. Now, here, the houses are solidly built, the foundations are high, and the roads are convenient. There’s no more need to cover things with tarpaulins or reinforce structures during storms. People can live peacefully, focus on their work, and raise their children to study, without the worry of running from the rain and wind like they did in the old village,” Mr. Ta said.

The village of Tăk Cui is currently home to 55 households of the Xơ Đăng ethnic minority, including 46 relocated households and 9 households relocating in situ. Previously, these households lived scattered in remote, isolated areas with steep terrain, frequently facing the risk of landslides and lacking the resources for essential infrastructure investment. The relocation of residents was initiated by the government to bring them to a safer area, more convenient for their lives and long-term development.

According to Mr. Ngo Tan Lac, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune, in the new residential area, the internal transportation system has been expanded, basic water supply is ensured, schools and health stations are within convenient radius, and the national power grid is being deployed. The village space is airy, and each house plot is clearly planned, creating conditions for people to build more spacious houses than before.

Mr. Lac further informed that the total funding for the Tak Cui residential area is nearly 5 billion VND from the budget, in addition to which the commune has integrated many social resources to help households have more conditions to build houses and complete infrastructure. After the reorganization, the appearance of the residential area has changed significantly, the landscape is more spacious, and the lives of the people are gradually stabilizing.

The success of the resettlement model in Tăk Cui not only provides stable housing for dozens of ethnic minority households in mountainous areas, but also demonstrates the effectiveness of the policy of relocating people from high-risk areas and adapting to natural disasters. This is also an important step in the process of building new rural areas in the highlands, aiming for sustainable development, ensuring safety and improving the quality of life for people in the context of increasingly severe climate change.
