The Trung Luong blacksmith village resounds with the sound of hammers.

In the final days of the year, blacksmiths in Trung Luong village, Hong Linh town ( Ha Tinh province ), are busy racing against time to produce products for the Lunar New Year.

With the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024 fast approaching, orders are soaring, and the Trung Luong blacksmith village is working almost day and night to complete products for the Tet market.

Mr. Bui Van Tan from Tan Mieu Hamlet said: "Trung Luong blacksmith village is hundreds of years old, and despite going through many ups and downs, the fires have never stopped burning. Every year, the time before the Lunar New Year is a busy time for blacksmiths because customers order a lot of products, mainly knives. Therefore, those working here have to start work at dawn and finish late at night, sometimes even working through the night."

To create a complete forged knife, the craftsman must go through many stages, the four main ones being: cutting and hammering into a predetermined shape, steel hardening, steel tempering, and grinding to the finished product.

Steel tempering is the most difficult step, determining the quality of the product, and is usually performed by highly experienced master craftsmen.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Ha from Tan Mieu residential area shared: "Previously, forging knives, scissors, and other agricultural tools was mainly done manually, which was very laborious. But now, households engaged in this craft have invested in machinery and equipment, so the amount of products produced is greater and the work is less strenuous."

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Ha, blacksmithing requires not only physical strength but also meticulousness and skill to produce the best quality products.

Currently, Trung Luong ward has 104 households and 6 blacksmithing establishments. This is the main occupation of the locality, bringing stable economic benefits.

This work isn't just for men; women can participate as well.

The main product of Trung Luong blacksmith village is knives. Trung Luong knives are renowned for their superior sharpness and durability. According to the knife makers here, the best material for forging knives is steel from automobile springs.

The products from Trung Luong blacksmith village are being packaged by the women, ready to be supplied to the market to meet the needs of people during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
