"Flip Side 7" has cooled down
As of noon on June 21, after about 2 months of showing, the revenue of the movie "Lat mat 7" reached 478 billion VND, according to statistics from the independent unit Box Office Vietnam.
Currently, the number of screenings for the film is quite limited, only over 100. Ly Hai's work is not strong enough to compete with a series of newly released foreign blockbusters such as: "The Legacy of Foreigners", "Emotional Fragments 2", "Cuu Long Thanh Trai: Siege"...
With the recent achievement, the movie "Lat mat 7" has surpassed the revenue of "Nha ba Nu" (475 billion VND). Ly Hai's work has also become the second most popular movie in the history of Vietnamese theaters.
Previously, many viewers questioned whether "Lat mat 7" could surpass the revenue of Tran Thanh's film "Mai" which currently has 520 billion VND?
However, with the current ticket sales situation, "Lat mat 7" is unlikely to reach the number that Tran Thanh's "Mai" achieved when it was released during Tet 2024.
The film currently topping the Vietnamese box office is "Emotional Pieces 2". The film has nearly 2,000 screenings and currently has a revenue of about 35 billion VND. On June 21, the film had a revenue of more than 600 million VND.
Coming in second is "Gia tai cua ngoai", the film has more than 1,400 screenings and is currently earning more than 63 billion VND. On June 21 alone, the film earned more than 200 million VND.
Speaking specifically of "Lat mat 7", the film currently only earned 25 million VND on June 21, a significant decrease compared to last week. Partly because there are too many competing blockbusters, and partly because the film was released quite a while ago - since April 30, so its appeal has cooled down.
According to film experts' predictions, Ly Hai's film could leave theaters with revenue ranging from 478 - 480 billion VND.
"Flip Side 7" still has a chance to beat "Mai" in international revenue
After being shown in Vietnam, the film "Flip Side 7" continues to expand to the international market. Director Ly Hai announced that the film has been shown in 270 theaters in 12 countries and territories (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, France, Norway...), since June 14.
Recently, according to the announcement from the producer, "Flip Side 7" will continue to be shown in the Asian market. Currently, the work holds the record for the Asian film with the most screening locations in the Taiwanese market (China) with 86 locations (accounting for 95% of the total number of cinemas here).
Sharing the reason for choosing Taiwan (China) as the first Asian market, Ly Hai said that he wanted to test the audience's reaction. In addition, the male director also revealed that the crew is planning to bring the film to show in Japan and other markets.
It is known that there is another market that has confirmed that "Lat mat 7" will be shown from July 18, which is Singapore. After that, some other markets are waiting for the official release date including: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first review of "Flip Side 7" came from Asian Movie Pulse, a website specializing in Asian cinema.
Author Panos Kotzathanasis rated the film 6.5 points, classifying it as "fresh tomatoes". Overall, the review was positive, commenting that the film was "entertaining, informative and very well acted, appealing to fans of family dramas".
Thus, "Lat mat 7" is receiving positive reviews when shown internationally. Previously, Tran Thanh's "Mai" earned 2 million USD when shown abroad. With the current situation, "Lat mat 7" is likely to surpass this achievement of the work directed by Tran Thanh.
