Exposing the scam of 'miracle healers' claiming to cure all diseases with alkaline ionized water.

Nguyen Tien Nam and his accomplices boasted on social media that they could cure all diseases with alkaline ionized water to attract patients, aiming to sell water purifiers at high prices.

On May 22nd, Hanoi City Police arrested Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam (born in 1958, residing in Dia village, Binh Minh commune, Hanoi City) along with 7 other individuals for investigation into the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.

Earlier, in early 2026, the police in Binh Minh commune (Hanoi) discovered a group of individuals led by Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam, suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities to embezzle property through the guise of treating illnesses by drinking alkaline ionized water.

Social media users are posting videos claiming that Mr. Nam has the ability to cure all diseases, including those for which there is currently no treatment in world medicine.

Specifically, when interacting with patients, these individuals all claimed to be able to cure them, but the time frame depended on the type of illness and the treatment method.

Using this tactic, Mr. Nam's facility receives an average of 30-40 patients per day. In particular, for seriously ill patients, the facility requires an accompanying adult.

During the "treatment" process, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam's group charged each patient who came for treatment 200,000 VND per session and 100,000 VND per accompanying person.

For patients who do not come for in-person treatment, the staff will advise them to purchase water purifiers for home use according to instructions.

Notably, despite importing the goods at prices ranging from a few hundred thousand to a few million dong, through Mr. Nam and his accomplices, each machine was sold for 6 to 45 million dong.

According to the police, the money the suspects stole mainly came from terminally ill patients who were in difficult circumstances and lacked information.

Upon verification, the total amount of transactions related to Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam from 2024 to the present is 84.5 billion VND .

On May 20th, the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency conducted an urgent search of Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam's residence and workplace at two locations in Binh Minh commune, seizing numerous unlabeled water filters, ledgers tracking income and expenses, patient treatment records, and water filter purchase records, along with a large amount of cash.

In connection with the case, the Investigating Police Agency also summoned 13 related individuals along with the patients being treated to the agency's headquarters for clarification.
