According to Nguyen Thanh Binh, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Hue is a major religious and spiritual center of Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, and the entire country. Buddhism plays a significant role and has a major influence on the lives of the people of the ancient capital, becoming an integral part of the spiritual culture and contributing to the richness of Hue's cultural identity and people.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized: The locality acknowledges and highly appreciates the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of the province over the past time. In particular, the activities in response to the Hue Festivals have contributed to preserving, promoting, and honoring cultural values; attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists to Hue; and developing the local economy and society. All of this vividly demonstrates the engaged spirit of Hue Buddhism on the path of integration and national development, working together with the people of the province to build an advanced culture rich in national identity, united in striving for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, fairness, and civilization.
The Lantern Festival is a sacred spiritual journey, taking place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
Following the ceremonies, 20 boats carrying provincial leaders, along with numerous monks, nuns, Buddhists, and local people, proceeded to the riverbank to release approximately 30,000 floating lanterns onto the picturesque Perfume River.
Thousands of lanterns illuminate the ancient capital at night, carrying prayers for peace in the country, favorable weather, and the well-being and happiness of all.
Ms. Le Thi Nhan from Hue City said: "As someone born and raised in Thua Thien - Hue, releasing lanterns on the Perfume River is a very special and meaningful experience for me. I pray for my family's safety and good health, and for my hometown to develop further and soon become a centrally governed city."
