In Ba Chuc, on the night of April 1977, at the same time as 14 border communes of An Giang province, Pol Pot sent troops to attack and brutally massacre our people. The culmination of this crime was the massacre of 3,157 people in Ba Chuc, from April 18 to April 30, 1978. After 12 days and nights of occupation by Pol Pot, Ba Chuc was drowned in a sea of blood. Wherever they went, they looted property, burned down houses and public works; massacred our people regardless of age, gender. Hundreds of families had to live in the open air.
Ba Chuc Tomb Relic was recognized as a National Historical Relic on July 10, 1980. It preserves the remains of innocent people who were murdered and is considered an indictment of Pol Pot's genocide, which will be remembered forever. At the same time, it affirms the humanistic value, justice and noble international duty of the Vietnamese Volunteer Army in the cause of liberating Cambodia from the genocidal regime and rebuilding the country.
At the ceremony, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the 3,157 innocent victims murdered by the Pol Pot genocide; witnessed the drum beating ceremony to open the memorial service, lit sacred torches, and offered incense at the Ba Chuc cemetery - where 1,159 sets of collected victims' remains are preserved.
Before that, the delegates attended the incense offering ceremony at the memorial stele for the Ba Chuc people who were massacred by the Pol Pot invaders in 1978 (from April 18, 1978 to April 30, 1978) at the iron bridge in the middle of T6 (near Tuong mountain), where the massacre took place.
