Vietnam U.17 match schedule
The Vietnam U17 team is urgently preparing for the group stage of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship. In Group B, coach Cristiano Roland's team will face Japan U17, Australia U17, and UAE U17. Japan U17 are the defending champions, while Australia U17 have reached the semi-finals three times.
In their opening match at 10 PM on April 4th, Vietnam U17 will face Australia U17. Then, at 10 PM on April 7th, Vietnam U17 will play against Japan U17. Coach Roland's team will finalize their group stage match at 10 PM on April 10th against UAE U17.
The Vietnam U.17 team assembled yesterday (March 3) at the training ground of the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
Exciting match schedule for Vietnam U.17
With only about a month to train, refine the squad, and consolidate their playing style, it's easy to see that players who participated in the 2025 U.17 Asian Qualifiers continue to dominate the list of 34 players called up. In fact, they are also the most outstanding players, according to Coach Roland's assessment.
However, opportunities are also wide open for these "newcomers," because the competition within the Vietnam U.17 team is very positive and fair.
"The list of 34 players called up this time includes a number of new players making their debut for the national team. During the training period, the coaching staff will observe and evaluate them, thereby narrowing down the list to gradually select the best possible squad," Coach Roland said.
Vietnamese expatriate factors worth watching
Regarding the much-discussed case of Vietnamese-American player Thomas Mai Veeren, Coach Roland said: "I have gathered information about Thomas through videos I've received. In the coming time, I will personally assess his abilities through training, and from there I can make comparisons, evaluations, and make a decision."
We will continue to observe and support him in integrating into the team. Whether he can be helpful to the team remains to be seen. Hopefully, he will bring positive things to the team."
According to the plan, after a training camp at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the Vietnam U.17 team will travel to Oman for a training camp from March 23rd to 29th. There, the team will have two "test matches" against the host team, Oman U.17, before moving to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship finals.
Alongside coach Roland in the coaching staff are assistant coach Fernando Atz Gabriel (Portugal), along with Vietnamese assistant coaches including: Nguyen Dai Dong ( Hanoi FC), Hoang Tuan Anh (PVF), Nguyen Ngoc Duy (PVF), goalkeeping coach Tran Van Dien (PVF) and Brazilian fitness expert Brandi Regato Neto Jose (VFF).
In order to improve the quality of the Vietnam U.17 coaching staff before facing greater challenges at the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship, with the support and recommendation of the Japan Football Association, the VFF has decided to appoint Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi as a technical supervisory advisor, working alongside Coach Roland and his colleagues.
