Central Highlands - Central Vietnam tourism link: Don't "sign and leave it there"!

Not yet able to promote overall strength

At the Conference on tourism development linkage in the Central Coast and Central Highlands regions organized by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province in coordination with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration on the afternoon of May 30 in Quy Nhon City, many delegates frankly stated the current situation: Regional tourism linkage is lacking in depth and has not yet promoted its overall strength.

Many localities have only stopped at signing, taking photos, and issuing press releases without implementing specific actions, lacking truly attractive products, and with little participation from businesses.

Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang acknowledged that regional linkages have not created strong changes in recent times. They are still too formalistic, have not mobilized businesses to participate, and do not have a stable and long-term coordination mechanism.

Meanwhile, according to Dr. Vu Nam (National Economics University), Binh Dinh and other provinces and cities in the region need to quickly grasp new trends in world tourism such as green tourism, health tourism, digitalization, etc. to improve competitiveness and avoid being left behind.

Mr. Nguyen Ha Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietravel Tourism Joint Stock Company, said that businesses really need a clear and substantive cooperation mechanism from the local side. "We are ready to invest and design inter-regional linkage products if localities have the same strategy and synchronous support in terms of infrastructure, communication and policies," Mr. Trung said.

Binh Dinh can be the locomotive

According to Ms. Le Hoang My Hanh, General Director of Green Communications, the current tourism trend is not just about relaxation and sightseeing, but has shifted to personalizing experiences, connecting communities, preserving culture and digital transformation. "If we do not change, destinations will quickly fall behind," Ms. Hanh warned.

Many delegates said that, with its central location and available potential, Binh Dinh is considered to be able to become a leading force in linking and developing regional tourism. However, the province needs to take more drastic actions, starting with the construction of specific, differentiated linking products that can increase the length of stay and spending of tourists.

Signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding on tourism development cooperation between localities, businesses and international partners

Linking cannot be just about talking and signing. It is time for localities to sit down together, divide tasks clearly, share benefits fairly and coordinate actions with concrete results.

Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, assessed that the South Central Coast and Central Highlands region, including 8 provinces and cities (Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) and 5 Central Highlands provinces (Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong), has a central location, favorable for attracting tourists from the North and the South.

In particular, Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh continues to be an attractive destination, becoming a center for tourism development in the Central Highlands region. "Binh Dinh as well as other provinces and cities in the region, including businesses, should grasp the opportunity to invest in tourism development according to new travel trends, diversifying products according to market demand, such as green tourism, health care tourism... We not only exploit available resources but also have to create many tourism products rich in experiences to leave an impression on visitors," said Mr. Sieu.
