Flexible adaptation, maintaining export momentum

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - In the context of the global economy continuing to fluctuate unpredictably, especially the new tariff policy from the United States on many key export products of Vietnam, the pressure on domestic enterprises is increasing. In Thanh Hoa, many enterprises have demonstrated their bravery and flexible adaptability, not only maintaining export momentum in difficult conditions but also expanding markets, effectively taking advantage of new-generation free trade agreements to create momentum for sustainable growth.

Tien Son Group Joint Stock Company has an export rate to the US market of 60 - 70%. According to Mr. Le Van Hoa, the company's director, the new tax policy from the US has significantly affected export activities. "We have proactively adjusted our customer structure, diversified our raw material sources to reduce risks and costs, and expanded potential markets in Europe and Southeast Asia," said Mr. Hoa. Thanks to a flexible strategy, in the first 6 months of 2025, the company achieved 98.6% of its production plan. The company currently has orders until the end of January 2026 and expects its annual revenue to reach 105 - 110% of the plan.

According to the Thanh Hoa Textile and Garment Association, in the face of tariff fluctuations, the association has proactively coordinated with its members to seek orders with favorable conditions, exploiting domestic raw materials or those from countries in the CPTPP bloc to ensure the rules of origin of goods. "Recently, we recommended that businesses take advantage of the 90-day period when the US temporarily suspended the imposition of reciprocal tariffs to boost exports, while proactively diversifying markets to maintain a stable production pace," said Mr. Trinh Xuan Lam, chairman of the association.

Not only the textile and garment industry, but also other sectors such as footwear, wood products, agriculture, forestry and fishery have recorded many orders from partners shifting to Vietnam to avoid tariff impacts. While accelerating production to meet orders, businesses in the province have proactively developed response plans, prioritizing market diversification and raw material sources. Mr. Le Quy Viet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thanh Hoa Seafood Import-Export Company, shared: “In addition to traditional markets such as the US, Europe, and Japan, we are exploiting the Indian, Middle Eastern, and Russian markets to diversify the output structure, avoiding being passive in the face of tariff fluctuations. The company's 2025 orders are being implemented smoothly, achieving output and revenue plans.”

Many export enterprises in the province have also proactively met the high standards and strict regulations of the international market, while promoting the application of green technology, e-commerce, and compliance with ESG (environment, society and governance) in production and export activities... This is considered a sustainable direction, both ensuring stable selling prices when the supply chain is clear and improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in the first 7 months of 2025, the province's export turnover is estimated to reach more than 4.1 billion USD, up 21.8% over the same period. In July alone, sales reached 667 million USD, up 21.7%. Many items grew strongly such as livestock meat increased by 84.3%; backpacks - wallets - briefcases increased by 48.7%; wood chips increased by 28.6%; garment increased by 20.3%; footwear increased by 20.2%. This breakthrough reflects the recovery capacity and ability to effectively take advantage of market opportunities of Thanh Hoa enterprises.

Currently, the province has more than 230 enterprises directly participating in exports with a diverse range of goods from agricultural products, seafood, textiles to construction materials and electronic components. To expand the market, many enterprises have proactively exploited new generation FTAs such as EVFTA, CPTPP, UKVFTA and RCEP. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, there are about 70 enterprises exporting to the CPTPP bloc with a turnover of nearly 1.9 billion USD/year; 60 enterprises exporting to the EU with a turnover of about 1.5 billion USD/year. In the first 6 months of this year, about 47% of the province's export turnover enjoyed tariff incentives from FTAs, an increase of 6 percentage points over the same period last year - reflecting the increasingly active policy absorption capacity in economic integration of the Thanh Hoa business community.

The representative of the Department of Industry and Trade said that, striving to achieve the export turnover target of 8 billion USD by 2025, the unit is actively grasping the situation, advising the province on solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles in production, import and export activities. Along with that, the department also strengthens coordination with units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to disseminate rules of origin, environmental and labor standards; guide enterprises to look up and promptly update market information through portals VNTR, ATR, ASEAN Tariff Finder... to proactively defend and adapt to the market. In the long-term orientation, the industry and trade sector directs enterprises to continue to innovate technology, diversify markets and green transformation; advise on implementing preferential interest rate support packages for projects to upgrade production lines, develop green credit, creating favorable conditions for enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises to access the global market.
