On her personal page, the female President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) posted a picture of herself lying on a hospital bed at Bumrungrad Hospital, along with a brief caption: “Really exhausted” and a tired emoji. The post quickly attracted more than 18,000 reactions, thousands of comments and shares from fans, friends and the Thai online community, expressing concern and sending wishes for her speedy recovery.
The image of Madam Pang with a pale face and tired eyes made fans feel sorry. Encouraging comments such as: "I hope Madam gets well soon", "You are the energy of Thai football, keep it up" or "Even though you are tired, you still keep smiling, you are so strong"...
Billionaire Madam Pang was suddenly hospitalized due to exhaustion.
However, behind the familiar smile of this powerful female billionaire is a journey full of pressure, as she is shouldering the responsibility of saving FAT from a serious financial crisis.
FAT's financial crisis stems from a long-running lawsuit with Siam Sport Co., Ltd., related to the exploitation of television rights for the Thai National Championship (Thai League) since 2017.
At that time, FAT, under the leadership of former President Somyot Poompanmoung, signed a contract with Siam Sport, in which Siam Sport enjoyed 95% of the profits from the Thai League, while FAT only received 5%. When the Thai League began to escape losses and generate profits, FAT considered the 5% sharing rate unreasonable, leading to the unilateral termination of the contract with Siam Sport.
This decision pushed FAT into a long legal battle. Siam Sport sued FAT for breach of contract, and in March 2025, the Supreme Court of Thailand ruled that FAT lost the case, forcing it to pay 360 million baht (about 272 billion VND) in compensation.
FAT President Faces Huge Debt.
As of April 23, 2025, with the accumulated fines and interest, the total amount FAT has to pay has reached 560 million baht (about 436.4 billion VND), according to Thai Rath. At a press conference after the court's verdict, Madam Pang could not hold back her tears when sharing: "I respect the court's verdict. The unilateral termination of the contract with Siam Sport is invalid, and now FAT must suffer the consequences."
Besides seeking to settle the huge debt, she also sued former Chairman Somyot Poompanmoung, who is said to have caused serious damage to FAT with wrong decisions in the past.
Since officially becoming FAT President in February 2024, Madam Pang has become the first woman to hold the most powerful position in Thai football history. With her family background as one of the leading female billionaires in the Golden Temple country, she is not only famous in the business field but also leaves a strong mark in sports, especially football.
Madam Pang had to "run back and forth" to save FAT.
Madam Pang used to manage the Thai national football team, leading the team to many remarkable achievements, and was an inspiration to millions of fans. However, the role of FAT President placed an unprecedented burden on her shoulders.
To prevent the Enforcement Directorate from confiscating or freezing FAT’s assets, Madam Pang decided to spend 25 million baht (about 20 billion VND) from her personal assets to pay off the first debt to Siam Sport. Not stopping there, she also contributed an additional 5 million baht to support FAT’s operating costs, in the context of the federation facing a serious cash flow shortage.
Madam Pang's actions received high praise from her opponents in the lawsuit. Siam Sport's lawyer publicly praised her for her sense of responsibility, especially since she was not the one who directly caused the debt.
However, the pressure of running around to save FAT, along with stressful press conferences and fundraising campaigns, took a toll on her health. In order to find a long-term solution for FAT, Madam Pang launched the “Thais love Thai football” campaign, calling on the community to contribute to help the federation overcome its difficulties.
The campaign is not only to raise funds but also to inspire the spirit of unity and love for football among the Thai people. According to the plan, FAT and Siam Sport will continue to negotiate the remaining debt on May 14, 2025, in the hope of reaching an agreement to ease the financial burden.
Thai female billionaire left a good impression when appearing in Vietnam.
In addition to her domestic efforts, Madam Pang has also been actively promoting the image of Thai football internationally. In early April 2025, she traveled to Hanoi to attend a friendly match between the Vietnam U17 women's team and the Thailand U17 women's team. Her friendliness and professionalism left a good impression on fans of both countries, cementing her position as an influential leader in the region.
Although details about her health condition have not been released, the image of Madam Pang lying on a hospital bed has made the Thai football community worried. She is not only a leader but also a symbol of dedication and passion for football.
With the FAT facing serious financial risks, Madam Pang's absence, even if only temporary, could have a major impact on the morale of the Federation and its fans.
However, with strong spirit and great support from the community, fans believe that Madam Pang will soon recover to continue leading FAT through the storm./.
