Worrying about Dang Van Lam before the Vietnam national team's military reunion day

In the two most recent matches of Binh Dinh V-League Club (rounds 21 and 22, on May 26 and 30, respectively), goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was surprisingly absent. "Our team's viewpoint has always been that the strength lies in the collective, not in the defense or the goalkeeper position. We play a team defense and also a team attack, so the collective strength is put first. In the Binh Dinh team, no one is the best. Our coaching staff always believes that the collective is the best star," added coach Quang Huy.

Fans have reason to worry about Dang Van Lam's form, as the Vietnam national team's military training camp to prepare for the final two matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup is approaching. In this training camp, the goalkeeper currently playing for Binh Dinh Club will compete for a position with Nguyen Filip ( Hanoi Police Club), Nguyen Dinh Trieu (Hai Phong Club) and Quan Van Chuan (Hanoi Club).

Up to 4 goalkeepers were called up by coach Kim Sang-sik, but many comments said that the competition for the official position is just a "two-horse race" between Dang Van Lam and Nguyen Filip. However, with the latest developments in the domestic arena, Lam "Tay" may be losing to his colleague.

Since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season, Dang Van Lam has played 16 matches for Binh Dinh Club in the V-League. Then, at the 2023 Asian Cup and two consecutive matches against Indonesia in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, the goalkeeper born in 1993 was injured and was not called up to the Vietnamese national team. During that period, Nguyen Filip successfully acquired Vietnamese nationality and was highly regarded by Mr. Troussier, becoming the number 1 goalkeeper of the golden star team.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will begin training on June 1. Coach Kim Sang-sik and the players have 5 days to prepare for the reception of the Philippines team at My Dinh Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on June 6, before moving to Iraq to play the final match in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia at 1:00 a.m. on June 12 (Vietnam time).
