The Ranitomeya hwata frog has bright and vibrant coloration, including bright yellow dorsal stripes, a black band separating the throat region from the belly, and a variegated pattern on the belly.

Scientists say the frogs, Ranitomeya hwata, live in bamboo forests of the genus Guadua. They use the hollow cavities of the bamboo, which collect rainwater, as breeding grounds. Males typically mate with multiple females at each breeding site.
